I asked my LHS to order in a 12x6 prop for one of my electric planes, and what I received was an evolution 12060 model. This is a heck of a beefy prop, and I suspect that it is intended to be used on a Nitro motor, not electric. Can anyone confirm this for me? I want to be sure before I use it on a .70 nitro that I have.

As for the prop required for the electric (Mini Funtana X) I have gone back and requested both a 12x6 and a 12x8 APC electric prop. I am using a Turnigy 3536 910Kv with 3s lipos, so I think that it will turn the 12x8 without too much trouble. I have used the above mentioned evolution prop on it, and it works okay, the motor is only warm to the touch, but the prop is waaay heavier than the APC props, and the plane is already nose heavy, so need to lose weight up front any way that I can.

You should be using an APC 11x5.5 electric prop on your Turnigy 3536, a 12x8 is to much prop and a 12x6 might be OK. Large props draw alot of amps and shorten your flight time.

I will never trust an Evo prop.

I had 2 students with EVO arf's throw a blade on run up on the ground. One one of them, there was an obvious air bubble right at the root of the blade.

In both cases, the blade could have caused serious personal injury if anybody was standing in the line of the prop.

It's better to use a more well known brand name prop like APC or similar.

Thanks Max, my question was if anyone could confirm that this prop is for a Nitro motor rather than electric, since if it was, I could run it on a .70 that I have. However, based on your experience with them, I will deep 6 the thing and stay with Master Airscrew for nitro and APC for electric.

if your deep sixing it I will take it. Never had a problem with Evolution.

I have been running a number of Evolution props for two years now. I was sent a few of every size for testing.

I find them to be very good props, pull and RPM much like APC's. No better no worse.

Every manufacturer has failures (I have had more than one brand shed a blade in my year in the hobby). That is why you have good safety practices - start the engine, get behind it before you run it up. If you arent in front or off to the side you wont get hit.

So far, I really like the Evo props myself.

Oh yes, to answer the OP question, yes, the Evolution black plastic props are for glow or gasoline burning internal combustion engines.

Thanks Andrew, maybe I'll give it a try on a nitro plane. It looks like a nice prop, but have always been partial to master airscrew.
