Good info Brian! My son is interested in a Quad copter and he's waiting on the Blade 350 to come out ... any advice on a similar build in a similar price range would be appreciated. He wants it for his GoPro!

Cheers
Mike

Basic setup for a quad, flying LOS I'm guessing, would be the frame, 4 motors/esc's, rx, FC, props and flight battery. You can find some quad combos with everything except rx and FC. I'm particular in my gear and get higher end stuff, not too sure where to get everything in one shot, Goodluckbuy? I'm guessing you fly helis so multis should be an easy go for you. If you don't want the fancy features of GPS, I'd get Timecops acro naze FC. Good little FC for LOS flying and you can set it up wild for flips and rolls. It still can be used for FPV. I have two FPV multis without RTH and they have been flying great without issue. I do have a lost plane alarm on them though, just in case.

For about $200-250, you should be able to get a quad in the air. Cheaper if you have a rx and battery already. I have 6 reflashed HK blue series 30a esc's(for multis) that I won't be using. LMK if you need them and we can haggle out a price. They all have the + wire desoldered and cut from the esc board. I always use a separate bec to power my FC and rx as I don't like to use the esc bec.

NP. I even have a better deal for you and your son. Last spring I picked up a warthox frame and acronaze multi, RTF. The plan was to improve my LOS flying but I haven't had much time for it, FPV flying only. 900kv Sunsky motors, 9" props, acro naze FC, DJI 30a esc's, separate bec and led's. $225 plus shipping. It has an AR6000 rx already, just bind and fly. I have two new 3s 2200 battery that I throw in also. I have an extra esc, motor and some props too. Here is a vid of the fellow that I bought it from. It's pretty wicked and this guy has been flying less then a year.

You could add some landing gear and gimbal later if you wanted.

Sorry Brian, that is incorrect, the Phantom does come with a 3 way switch that you can program the 3'rd position to be whatever you want.

It comes stock as GPS---> ATTI--->ATTI

but you can change it in 2 seconds with the naza software (Which is a piece of cake to use, BTW)

The 2 phantoms I have set up recently, I set the 3rd switch position on both of them to RTH/FS

Now the switch assignment is:

GPS---> ATTI--->FS (RTH/Autoland)

Re: Whats the best for the buck

No disrespect to the Phantom owners out there, but I also have ordered the Blade QX 350 (P Killer?) and if it's even close to the hype, it will be awesome! All the same features, a vibration reducing GoPro mount and great looks!

Too bad we have to wait until October (Patience, my ass...I'm going to go out and Kill something!) Oh well, I'll just keep practicing with my mQx for the next couple of months!
