Oh no I didn't...
Now, I have heard about, read about, and even laughed at the YouTube videos, but never thought I would pull this bone headed stunt.
Was flying my one week old TRex 450 today, and having fun with inverted hovers and messy tictocs when my phone rang. So, I landed and answered. After the conversation, I continued with my flying and took off. I promptly continued where I left off and rolled to the inverted about eye level. It was immediately apparent what I forgot to do... I almost got it rolled upright before I tagged the ground - but not quite. Don't forget to idle up! Looks like it's just a few teeth missing on the main drive gear - even the spindle and main are straight - certainly could have been worse. These are tough little machines for sure - my Vibe would have been a bent up mess. All I can do is shake my head and laugh - never thought it would be me.

Re: Oh no I didn't...
Yup. Distractions can be a mess, and dangerous.
I lost my beloved Falcon 56 a few weeks ago due to a friend pestering me to watch his new foamie Seawind.....to the point I forgot to raise the Tx antenna when I took off. Plane was so fast it did the goat before I could reach up and grab the stub sticking out the top. At least it sounds like you came home with a mostly intact machine. Good for you. |

Re: Oh no I didn't...
Lucky the damage was minimal Mark. Just the other day...my buddy who I encouraged to get into fixed wing...crashed his beloved 3m glider. The cause? Forgetting a proper pre-flight, turns out the elevator servo was reversed. A tough lesson learned.
