Has anyone painted the inside of their canopies black? What is the best way? I'd like to make the canopy on my Comp-Arf Extra 330L 2.3 black.

Re: Painting a canopy.

I have painted a lot of my canopies black from the inside. I use just any black in the spraybombs. I just clean the inside with alchohol and spray away.

Since the paint is on the inside, it looks like a super high gloss due to the clear on the canopy and is fully protected by the canopy itself. I have some that have been painted for 5 years now and they still look like new.

I have painted a couple from the outside also. Those I used plastic cleaners and adhesion promotors from DuPont, sprayed with a black basecoat, then topcoated with a urethane clearcoat to fuel proof. Also works very well, but a lot simpler to just spray the underside if you can.

Good luck

Curt

Re: Painting a canopy.

do what everybody says but you do have to be careful on really hot sunny days as the canopies can deform.

Re: Painting a canopy.

Yup.. just like Curt said.. clean er up good and spray... one tip for those hot days and a black canopy.. drill an 1/8 inch hole near the back of it.. let out some of that hot air.

My extra 330 I painted with color shift paint from canadian tire.. changes colors depending on how you look at it. that was a bit more of a trick, as I had to spray the color on the inside of the canopy first.. then spray on the black...basicaly reverse order from the instructions. The black checkered a little bit, but you only notice it when the canopy is off and up side down anyways.
