What is a GOOD quality servo?

I am wondering what kind of servos I should invest in. I have been using standard Futaba servos - both the 3003 and 3001 w/bb. I have stripped the gears on a few of them by bumping the flaps or servo arms (on the wings) against things. Several of the servos got gears stripped in a crash. One of my servos must have got water in it when I was playing around with my trainer on floats because now it wont stop twitching. Is there any servo I can get that is standard size, water resistant (to where water dripping on it wont cause it to fail, not necessarily be completly submerged), and has metal gears? I just bought my 3001's and 3 of the 4 are now not working (the ones with stripped gears I can fix with a new gear set, but the other one that got wet might be gone).

Hitec MG's are good and probably your best value, as well you might want to try out JR's new ST125MG's, not sure if those are available yet though.

I would like to stick with Futaba. No offence to the JR guys here, but I REALLY do not like them. I have had problems with 2 of their radios and will NEVER EVER buy ANYTHING from JR again I spent many weeks waiting for repaired/replaced radios to come in the mail instead of flying.

Hitec??

Can't help you with anything Futaba, love my 9C but personally I feel their servos are just overpriced for what you get.

The new sport JR servos are available at my local hobby shop for the past month.

They are made in Malaysia instead of Japan , but are very afordable.

You cannot go wrong with either JR or Futaba Radios or servos from these two or Hitec.

I have heard of people having problems with both JR & Futaba radios and servos as well as Hitec.

I am assuming that all servos are compatible (in terms of manufacturers), given the wires are connected properly? I know JR servos are wired up differently than Futaba. Ill look into all of them but JR, so between Futaba, Hi-tec, and whatever else is out there what should I be looking at? It doesnt matter to me weather they are digital or not.

Sorry, not true.

True for older Airtonic servos, not sure about the new ones.

I have a lot of JR NES 517 in my sport stuff, never had one fail, can't say the same for my "standard" futaba servos which are mostly replaced now.

As for what to look for, aside from toque, speed, bearing/bushing and size, I always remove the bottom cover and check that the wires are glued. Too many servos rely on the solder to the pcb board to provide a mechanical bond, all too common failure point, especially in helis.

Well I guess it really depends on the applications you intend to use them for. You mentioned something about a trainer on floats, that isn't going to requre very big or expensive servos. If you plan on swapping them at a later date to be used in a larger or more aerobatic plane then go for something with a bit more torque or speed.

I am partial to Hitec's because you get alot of servo for the price you pay.

Since your in the US, take alook here: http://www.servocity.com/
Good prices on Futaba and Hitec

As for failures, its happens to every brand so pick what you like.
