Firewall Reconstruction help needed!!!
I pushed the Power25 motor back thru the firewall on my E-flite DHC-2 Beaver (guess how!) and now need to recreate a new firewall. What is the best way to get an accurate template for the job:
(a) Cut the remains out, piece it together as best I can and do a tracing, or (b) Take a photo with some scale reference and then attempt to print the photo as close to 100.00% as possible, or (c) Some really smart idea I haven't thought of yet? First shot at a re-construction so any suggestions would be VERY welcome. Thanks |

Re: Firewall Reconstruction help needed!!!
I'd use Method (a) Rob. Old pieces and a ruler to check the sizes out. I've done it several times myself. Make a cardboard template to check out accuracy then cut it and size it from plywood. Good Luck!

Re: Firewall Reconstruction help needed!!!
I agree.
The easiest method short of having a set of plans is to reconstruct it using the broken pieces to make a template. Once you piece it back together, it will be awfully close to the original. Now you can use that to make the template, and trim to suit. Good luck

OK, thanks Max and Glenn... just thought there might be an alternative that hadn't occurred to me.

And just think how much quicker the job will be next time .... ....
just kiddin .... my experiences have taught me that if you go that route and save the template ..... you'll never need it again ... |
