Phaeton 90 advice...Maidened last night

Hey guys... I'm just putting the finishing touches on a kit built Balsa USA Phaeton 90 Bipe. I was just wondering if any of you gents have flown one of these? Are there any bad tendancies to watch out for while maidening? I was thinking of powering it with a GMS .76 or a Super Tiger 90. I have both. Was leaning towards the GMS because I wanted to use the S.T. in a Super Chipmunk 120. The GMS has been run in in a CG Tiger 60 weighing in at 9 1/4 lbs and pulls it around with authority. Wingspan of the Phaeton 90 is 70' top and 64" bottom. Setup weight will be approx. 12 - 12 1/2 lbs. Any and all tips, tricks and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Curt

I had one and tried two different powerplants in it. Flew with a OS 120 four stroke and also with a OS 90 FSR. Flew much better with the 90 two stroke.

90

Just rebuilt one, added a custom cowl, wheel pants, complete set of flying wires and installed an OS 108. Now need to take it all apart and cover it in super coverite and paint white with yellow trim and black pinstripping. It should look really nice.

Gorgeous airplane Curt, I have one NIB that I'm really looking forward to building. You may want to revisit how you have your exhaust set up, that's a long extension and in general, two stroke engines don't like them. It causes too much backpressure, loss of power and overheating. Run the engine with and without it to see what effect it will have before putting it in the air.

Cheers!

Will do that, Jollidude, before I put it into the air!

Thanks

Awesome

Well, we maidened my Phaeton 90 last night. Again, our flying pro , Terrill Johnson, had the honors. I wish I had this mans' confidence. He took it up and said it needed next to nothing for trim. He brought it around and greased a perfect landing. I took it up next and I can honestly say that this is one nice relaxing flying Bipe. Big in the air, not twitchy and lands as good as any trainer I have flown. Floats in for landings with very little power on. The GMS.76 flys it around pretty good. Hands off at 1/2 throttle. Just enough for relaxed flying. The extra long exhaust tube I incorperated into mine doesn't seem to have any effect on the way the motor runs and zero exhaust residue to clean up Would recomend this Bipe to any one who doesn't want to do a lot aerobatics. The only drawback is that it takes a while to build (took me about 250 hrs) but is worth it in the end
