Novi Arrow
A model from the late south african modeller John Brink.
The model has been built by a friend using plans redrawn by myself and published on italian modelling magazine Modellismo. The model is very light, 3 kg only. |

Re: Novi Arrow
You Have done a nice job on your plane . What are you using for power plant? The wing looks like a Spitfire wing don't you think so.

Re: Novi Arrow
Guiseppe,
Apart from the electric motor and servos in the wings for the ailerons, what other changes were made in you and your friend's remake of the Novi Arrow? Any videos on online of it flying. For others the Novi Arrow plans were originally published by American Aircraft Modeler in June, 1974. The plans had two wing tip versions: a 66.5" clipped wing, similar in looks to current remake, and 70" (unclipped wing tips), and with a two stroke .60, weighed 7.5 pounds, with retracts and 825 sq. inch wing area. thanks

I choose a wing section that was very similar to the original and with Autocad redraw all ribs, can't remember if I used the one you talk about, maybe it was a NACA 4 digit, also can't remeber to have read of the original one in the article. I even draw rudder and fin section with the original offset hinging. Fuse formers were redrawn according to the outline traced by me. I have already built myself 3 vintage model: Morris ( Italian model ) , Mach1 and Dirty Birdy that was to have maidened today but wasn't because of strong wind. All these models are electric powered using a Lipoli motor reccomended by a Austrian shop for the ARF Curare. The actual builder of the Novi is a Italian modeller living a bit far from my home, I don't know how his model was modified. I'll invite him to subscribe to this forum so he can give first hand informations. P.S. No matter where english speaking people live, they always spell my name wrong: gIu is correct gUi is wrong by the way I'm known with the nick Beppe |

Re: Novi Arrow
Cristian Duratti, the modeller who actually built the Novi tell me that he changed the wing structure substituting balsa sheet full depth longerons with balsa square stocks and balsa stiffener between ribs.
He also used ribs and sheet elevators instead of solid one as was drawn on plan. The major changes went into the nose where an hatch was built for easy battery removal. Ply reinforcement where replaced by glass fiber layed inside. |
