I have a few 1/2A engines that I would like to run , what fuel brand are you using ? What is the percentage of nitro and caster amounts and can you get fuel in pint and quart cans? The engines are Cox .049 . Got plans for a U/Control plane and School master r/c and would like to put these finger wackier engines in them.

There are differing opinions but the general recommendation is to use fuel with around 18 to 20% straight castor lube and 15 to 25% nitro. The original Cox fuel is close to this mix. I've use Byron's 25% nitro fuel which comes in quarts labeled "1/2A Fuel, 16% All Castor" and I add 1 oz. Sig castor to each quart. My engines all run well and seem to last a long time between rod resets.

I am currenlty using Wildcat 1/2A mix, have had great success with Sig 35% 1/2A fuel also. For slower running engines like the reedies you can get by with a full synth or low castor mix, but you really cant beat a higher castor mix for the TD's.

ANything from 15% to 35% is good, I think the Wildcat I am using now is 25% nitro.

18% oil MINIMUM - 22 to 25% is better.

Information helpfull

Hi Andrew thanks for the info. on 1/2 A engines. Were you at kitchner for the September scale Rally about 3 or 4 years ago ? There we a guy who had a bunch of small engines displayed on a blanket, was that you? If so I enjoyed talking to you. There were allot of engines with experimental carburettors on them. By following your posts on this site knowing you are an engine man .

Nope, that wasnt me. Havent been to the scale rally since 94'

I run enough 1/2A stuff to know what works for me. Its a little different for everyone, but if you buy a brand name fuel like Sig or Wildcat that is made for 1/2A engines you really cant go wrong.

Any experience with Toki .18

Hi AJ

I just purchased a Toki .18 DF unit and of course all the instructions are in japanese. Have you any experience with this engine?

Iam sure to run high nitro 25-35 % they say you should get 30,000 rpms out of this sucker. They rate the engine at about 3lbs of thrust !
