Berkeley DHC-2 Beaver

Some may have seen my thread on RCG regarding this plane. I have built a reproduction of a vintage 1955 Berkeley Beaver. The short kit was purchased from Dan Walton at Laser Technologies. I then modified it for conversion to electric power and significantly lightened the structure.

I finally got the maiden in earlier today and I am quite happy with the results. It's a fantastic flyer, one I am proud to have in my hangar.

Here are some photos. Enjoy!

Re: Berkeley DHC-2 Beaver

Congratulations!

This is also one on my build list so I went looking for the kitmaker.

First find was your RCG thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1649565

Can I find the website? No......

Would you happen to have the website?

Re: Berkeley DHC-2 Beaver

Thanks. I've already contacted Dan and found that out the hardway -- I asked him (grin). Did ask for the price list as well.

A bit of a pleasant surprise -- I've seen too many fly-by-nighters with a website and no product.

Nice! That is MY idea of a 'canadian-classic' RC Plane! This build is now on my bucket list!

Re: Berkeley DHC-2 Beaver

This was far from a simple build. The plans are old (1955) and originally designed for glow/IC engines. Dan only supplies a short kit and there are still a number of parts that need to be fabricated by hand. I used about 2/3's of the original kit parts as I significantly redesigned the fuselage structure to reduce weight.

I understand that another well respected designer is working on a slightly larger 60" WS version that will be well suited to park flying. I won't reveal their name, but there will likely be a build thread on RCG. If previous designs are any indication, it will be a very well thought out kit and much easier to build than the Berkeley design.

Now that I've finished off a few builds from the winter, it's time to enjoy flying them!
