Associated Reedy 550 Killed my Brand NEW LiPo

So i was doing a quick bash inside my garage.

Stock SC10 4x4.

Battery was a 40c Nano Tech 2200mah 2S.

After 4-5 Minutes, my low voltage alarm went off and i checked the pack and it was puffed

Suprised that this motor can pull this much amperage

You need to take those C ratings on HK lipos with a grain of salt. I usually take 30% off their C rating.

Even if correct, a 2200mah is way low to run in a 1/10 car. Even at 40C that's only 88 amps available. At 30% off that's only 60amps. I don't run anything less than 4000mah in my 1/10 cars.

Its also good to have some idea of what current you are pulling FIRST. Only then can you decide what C rating you really need.

Or in your case, maybe something was binding/sticky upping the amp draw? Without any empirical data, you really dont know.

On my new models, I always take a test run with my Eagletree datalogger. It records battery voltage, current and cumulative mah for the duration of my runs.

Then I download the data and analyze it. I can see at a glance what my peak current is, and what my average current is when just tooling about. Based on that, I can make the right decision as to what capacity battery I need.

Also, the basic battery alarms with preset alarms for 3.3V are crap. Once you get to that level under load, your battery is pooched.

I prefer this programmable alarm from Hobby King.

You can program the alarm to the voltage YOU want in .05V increments. I set mine to 3.50V/cell and when it goes off, you are plenty safe and you dont run the risk of puffing a pack. Its also loud as hell, so there's no mistaking it when the alarm goes off.

The lipo that was puff went back to nornal. Cannot tell any difference vs my other pack. Is it safe to use on a lower discharge model??

Yes, no problem at all. Monitor it when you use it and see what it takes back when you charge it back up.

If anything, you may have lost a little bit of its capacity, but it should still work fine on less demanding applications.
