Just been tinkering a bit with the 182. Got the motor mounted and slid a couple 3S 5000's onto the servo tray. I may end up putting them there in the end, they fit perfect between the structure aft of the firewall. Not that big of a deal to pop the wing off to change batteries. With the motor hanging way out front and the two batteries sitting on the servo tray the balance is looking quite good. Just a tad tail heavy, so with the 5S 5000's it should end up good. Worst case scenario I could add a Rx battery if I need to tweak the balance. So far plan to just use the BEC in the ESC. Maybe will get a couple batteries later this week and then it will be just the ESC to fasten on and pop a Rx in.

From what I can tell with my 4500's I should get an honest 10-12 minutes or even more for scale flying even with the bigger motor. Have you seen my past pics with the belly opening to change batteries ? Works well and U don't have to take wing off. Plaqn on going out tomorrow am early before the temperature gets up there.

I did see the hatch pics. They go forward and under the servo tray? I guess if you used a stand to set it in and flip it over the hatch would be slick. Struts will be a bit of a pain for taking the wing off. Right now I just want to get it in the air and have a few flights under my belt before the IMAA event. Maybe if I have some time on vacation the hatch could be added. With 10ah of capacity, 12 minutes is where I plan to set the timer to start with.

Let us know how how the flight goes.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182 Arf

Just nosing around the plans and I see it shows 2 deg down and 0 deg L/R for the thrust line. It's hard to measure but it appears there may be a half degree or so of right the way it sits right now. It may also be just a small "defect" in the cowl too. I don't know if I should mess around and try to measure it with the cowl off to see if it needs adjusting, or just leave it if there is some. Often a bit of right just helps offset propwash on the tail. The fin looks straight on this bird.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182 Arf

I would leave it the way it is and try a flight or two. Are you taking the measurements from the firewall as I believe there is some downthrust built in. Are you using a Robart incidence meter as that gets about as accurate as you need. What radio are you using ? I may use throttle-elevator
mix with my SD-10G ATX radio.
I find mine tracks very well with just a slight amount of right at full throttle. The big thing I found is the lateral balance was out. I have my CofG balance way up in the right, front cowl area to keep the weight down and have my 6S on the left side. Had to add 1 oz. even in the right wing tip ( made bolt off wingtips) to compensate and will add lighting later . I bought a cheap ($10) electronics scale from a clearance center for weighing. Then I use a 1 oz mixing cup and add weight until I get it to balance. Weight the cup and contents to get the weight needed and Voila ! Cast a small square led weight and hollowed out the wingtip to compensate. Didn't glue it so I can change later if and when I do any modes. Will try and do some pics next week if I get time as I am trying to get this bird all trimmed out for our Big Bird funfly, 25 and 26 of August and will fly in conjuction with my Twin Otter.

I had to add an ounce to my wing also.

I think that is what I will do for now.

I haven't taken any measurements, it just appears to be a tiny bit right based on the front of the cowl, but that may just be a slight variation in the cowl itself. Not likely anything to be concerned with until I get it in the air. I do see the 2 deg down built into the firewall. Based on how visible that is and how slight the right angle that I think I can see, I bet I wont even notice anything.

Going to set it up with the DX18. I seem to have worked out the frustrations I had at first and am getting it to do what I want. The manual is so poorly written/lacking in details with the Spek radios. Thank heavens for forums with experienced users/company reps to help learn the things that are poorly covered in the manual. RF-wise the radio is rock solid, and has smooth, fast response.

Glad to hear you are getting yours in the air and trimmed out.

How did you find the power with your setup?

I bet my AUW should come out fairly decent with the electric. When I pulled the .61 off there were two huge hunks of lead on the motor mount, total of 8 oz. I have lots of places on the motor mount to attach weight also, if needed, and keep it up front and to a minimum.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182 Arf

Power is more than enough... takeoff is about 75-80% throttle setting and have a reserve if needed. I am totally 110% happy with my SD-10G radio and have all the mixes tuned in with very little use of the manual. All servos are digital except the nose steering and the rudder. May swap out the rudder servo and dorky pushrod setup as not tight enough for my liking. Will probably use another ATX 94761 servo in the tail for more direct link but will wait for the moment. Had a great day flying today in slight to very little wind. The more I fly it the better and more comfortable I get . The weight I put in the light wingtip really helped the lateral balance.

I have two props and spinners set up. 15X8 two bladed and 15X7 three bladed (I wanted a 15X8 three but that was all they had at the LHS). I found a 16X6 Zinger in my prop box. Do you think that is a bit too fine pitch for this bird on the Scorpion 4020-14? Running 5S. Have not done any current tests yet.

Hi,

Long overdue- I am finishing my Cessna and plan to maiden it this week. I have a quesiton regarding the wing struts that run fomr the wing to the fuse.

Does anyone know if these are structural or a scale finish. I will be removingthe wing to put it in my van and I think the struts will become loose after a few trips with putting them on and taking them off....ot does anyone have a good solution for this.

Thanks!!
