Rev Max & Stator Gator

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
OK. So I bought a Predator Gas SE(cause i'm really tired of paying $35/gallon for 15% nitro!). The hobby shop where I purchased the heli recommended that I install a Rev Max during the build. OK! Bought and installed the Rev Max according to directions, and even fabricated a billet bracket for the sensor. Done right? Now I am being told that I should have installed a 'Stator Gator' and would not even have to use the magnets?
So I'm a little confused! Is what I'm being told correct? Should I be installing a 'Stator Gator' in my new bird? Is this 'Stator Gator' as good as people are saying it is?
And if the 'Stator Gator' is what I need, and I don't need to use the magnets, then does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the magnet's? Other than drilling them out! Because I used 20min epoxy to fasten them to the fan(so they're in there good).
Or is it possible that using the Rev Max with the magnets is the way to go and I shouldn't worry about the 'Stator Gator'.
HELP!!

Stator Gator is the way to go... If you have balanced the fan with the magnets already- just leave them in!!

Dude,

This is a better way to go with gas. Nothing extra to buy plus the magnet is already in the flywheel!

Hi Alex

Are you using the Stator Gator and if so where did you buy it? Where does the Gator attach to, and if I use the Gator does the magnet orientation matter?

Hi Guys

Do either of you have any experience with this mag sensor shown in the above photo? I'm not sure what that is exactly. Does it work with the Rev Max and the magnet's? Or is it a seperate unit? Anyone know what the price difference is between the two? Stator Gator or mag sensor? I'm still a little confused!

Thanks

Warren

""""if I use the Gator does the magnet orientation matter?""""

If you use a Stator Gator, you do not need any magnets. The unit plugs into the spare wire coming from the coil or, with a RC230 (Vario Benzin), you remove the square red kill button and plug in here. There are two different Stator Gator units depending on which engine you have.

I have one of each of the Stator Gator units. One is used on a JR Ergo Z230 with the older G-23 (also been used on an older X-Cell Gas Graphite); the other on a RC230 - both work well.

Both of my Stator Gators are used with GV-1's. I can't say how they work with a Rev Max - no experience.

As was said above, it you've installed the magnets. just leave them - they won't hurt anything.

I ran a TJ Pro with the sensor againt the side of the engine case. It worked alright, but not great. It would disengage at times.

I switched to a GV-1 with a stator gator, and haven't looked back. The Stator Gator, is simple to install, just connect it and go. I would reccomend it.

Anyone know of someone running the Rev Max with the Stator Gator? Is the Stator Gator available in Canada, or more specifically western Canada!

The revmax sensor will not work with a GV-1 unless you modify it so I'd assume the statorgator will have to be type specific to the RM.

If you have problems with any governor going off line with OEM components it is either broken, the sensor is moving or vibrating out of position, or the setup is incorrect allowing the throttle curve to turn the governor off. A PPM radio glitch can do the same thing to some governors.

The picture of the gasser sensor shows the stock RM sensor attached to the engine with parts included with the RM. A home made one piece part would be less likely to shift position, or the thing may be secured to the crankcase with silicone as an extra measure to ensure or maintain position. I've used the GV-1 sensor in gassers and it works fine, although the sensor and magnet installation can be a little of a pain. If it were me I'd try the stock RM sensor first before buying more stuff that may not be compatable. Statorgator had a sensor developed for the CSM revlock governor which is a different beast.

Ask at this site incase they have developed a specific unit for the RM.
