Is there any chance that the battery was discharged to a voltage that resulted in a fire upon charging? Not accusing, just asking.

Re: LIPO Fire *** WARNING ***

No I don't think so Dave. The battery charge was normally good for 5 to 6 flights and I only had 2 flights on it. The whole charging sequence was very normal and the same as any other times. As I mentioned before, when the charge sequence ended, the charger beeped to let me know the charge cycle had ended. About a minute later when I got to the room to disconnect everything all looked ok from a distance - I could even see the steady green LED on the charger. It is only once I got to about 8 feet to the charger that the battery caught into this large ball of fire.

I am still convinced it the charger that was at fault and still waiting for a reply back from Horizon Hobby. Maybe we should start a vote here to see how many folks have had problems with these E-Flite Chargers...

Re: LIPO Fire *** WARNING ***

That is the exact charger! Mine came with an E-Flite T-34 Mentor. I'll try to get the p/n off it tonight when I get home.

Only tag I could find on the charger is LP3000-3. Not sure what that means....

I know this individual and just in case any are questioning his knowledge he is an Aircraft Avionic Design delegate. This fellow understands electronics!

I know that I will be more diligent while charging ...

Re: LIPO Fire *** WARNING ***

Guys, just my .02$, but junk the junk that comes with RTR planes. Invest in a decent charger. I have had Cellpro chargers, and they are fantastic. Can even bring batteries back from the dead. They just came out with a new model, the Cellpro 4s Gold. It is a perfect replacement for the RTR junk. Don't risk it. Still, always take precautions when charging, but you will have more peace of mind with better quality chargers.
