Got a little sumthin’ for my birthday! Getting back in the swing of things and always wanted an AJ.

Planning on stuffing a VVRC 40cc twin in the cowl. Savox 2283 for rudder and for elevator duties, Savox 1268 for ailerons…throttle? Well I might have to go to a mini. LiFe 3000mah rx with an IBEC. Radio? Well I need a new one. I’m working on that.

So far I am thoroughly impressed by the quality! Puts Pilot to shame…and some of my stick builds.

Re: AJ Aircraft 73” Raven

Your Raven is looking great. I have owned 3 AJ kits and still own 2 of them. There are a very nice planes and fly great. I also have a VVRC 40 twin, it is in a 78" Extreme Flight Extra V2. It is a great strong running engine.

Installed the horizontal stab. Had to sand the top left and lower right of the fuse slot with 220 to get the stab level. 257mm on either side and 39-5/8” from wing tube at trailing edge.

Not a big fan of just using CA over covering to secure it, I cut some covering off the front top and bottom and used 30min epoxy to initially get it in place and will follow up with the CA after it cures. I poked a bunch of holes in the stab covering just inside the line I drew for the CA to wick in some balsa.

Installed elevator with joiner. Elevator hits full deflection either way.

I used the extra hardware for the cowl. Used a balsa dust epoxy mixture as a filler as the t-nuts barrel stops the teeth from digging in any further because the tabs are thinner than expected.

After much consideration I will go with a single A123 26650 2500mah pack (homemade) and single HD switch. Ignition will get an IBEC so no need for a second battery. Redundant setup is twice the weight. Trying to keep it light.

I have 4 planes in the 20 to 40cc class and they are all on IBECs with a single A123 pack. I am using the Fromeco Badger solid state soft switch. Simple to recharge or swap out the pack for a fresh one if you want to fly more that day.

That switch is exactly what I was looking for! I’ll change the Deans input for XT30 but the dual JR out is how I plan on powering the rx. Did you order directly from Fromenco?

Another option is an automotive switch. More amps and somewhat cheaper. I was looking at a push button latching switch. Less than $20 delivered. I want a robust switch. XT30 18awg in and dual JR 20awg out.

Sooo, in my quest to find a good actual HD switch, I dug this up on Great Hobbies website…

https://www.greathobbies.com/product...rod_id=SMF1023

They didn’t make it easy to find. Fromenco doesn’t seem to want to ship to Canada as their site only offers US shipping and “are too busy” to answer any queries.

I will change the XT60 out for a XT30 though. I doubt that the servos and iggy will hit that 30amp mark.

Went with the SmartFly Super Switch HD with XT-60. Cut the rx side off and soldered 2 x 20awg silicone power JR/universal connectors. “Snakeskin” will be used battery side but I’m not there yet.

Tank plumbed. Kuza mag fuel dot and vent.

Pilot figure is getting there!

Re: AJ Aircraft 73” Raven

Sorry I somehow lost your thread. I have ordered my Fromeco items from Aircraft International always. Looking good!
