If kept lite, the mechanical gear will work great at about 1/8 the cost.
Several manufacturers, I think Hobbico was selling a decent pair. Some are plastic, I think if you can find a set of the all metal ones they would be better. I have some on my P-47, but I don't know who the manufacturer is. You can add strut covers (available from Robart) and scale wheels to avoid the wire-gear look.

In my 1/7 TF P-47 I went with mechanical(EZ) but used one servo for each retract. I looked at setting it up with one in the centre but what a pain in the sphincter.

On a 10 plus pound warbird , it might be a bit of a stretch to be using mechanical retracts .I know for sure that century jet makes retracts made specifically for this plane and probably robart does also .They are more money , but will make up for it with less upkeep .They also come with functional struts that do not bend .A few years back I built a top flite p-47 (1/7th) and used century jet gear .They served me well with well over 300 plus flights on them with no hangups or failed gear .
