Used correctly, flutter can help eliminate splintering and breaking of the airframe during a crash. Simply by reducing the plane to its original components before hitting the ground, you will no longer have the full mass hitting as one solid piece. Just a whole lot of smaller masses. This could help limit the mess of masses we find at the impact site.

Someone should design a "rekitting" feature that does this automatically before impact. The monokote will keep all the pieces together for easy transportation back to your shop.

I think this has been done, I've seen a few ARFs that behave this way.

Funny you should mention the Tiger II Sammy, they were notorious for flutter problems.

I saw a few go in.

The single servo setup combined with some very soft aileron stock was the culprit.

Hahahaha...wind breaking, eh Johnny... must have been from that salsa you brought back from Mexico!!

The Ultimate bipes must have a thing for flutter, as my GP Ultimate had the same thing happen..... course, it could also have been the way I was flying it, like it was a Patriot!!! I guess it wasn't really designed for high speed dives and low level passes!!!!

Couple of incidences on video tape. One was the fullsize F 117 stealth at an airshow. Right wing did about three cycles up and down then broke off the fuse. Came down in parts and pieces. Pilot bailed safely. Other one was Gasser Reno Racer Quad 200, Sea fury, Close to 200 MPH. Same thing. right wing did about three cycles then disintigrated coming down the straightaway. Scattered parts for 200 ft down the runway.

Hmmnn... my (12 year old?) TT120 (over)powered Golddberg Ultimate is still flying well. Of course there's no stock stock hardware on her....

If you over-power, you need to over-strengthen.

Jim,

My GP Ultimate certainly wasn't overpowered with an OS 46 FX, but as I said, it was more likely my flying "style" (or lack of) that was causing the fluttering!!

Great little plane, would definitely get another one!!
