In the video he had the Tx right beside the plane. I have seen that twitchy stuff happen with both 2.4 and 72 mHz when the Tx Antenna doesn't have a clean signal to the Rx.

For $hits and giggles, turn on your 2.4 Tx/Rx and place your Tx on a grounded metal object. I am not gonna ruin the surprise. Try it!
