Re: Eagle Attack!

More supporting documentation of what Kevin has just posted:

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/S-15.3/

The US has also taken the Bald Eagle off of the endangered and threatened list.

Cheers

Murray

Re: Eagle Attack!

mjohnson, your eagle encounter sounds to me like a territorial issue. I suspect they are thinking of setting up housekeeping very nearby. Shouldn't be an issue later in the season.

I have flown with hawks, ravens & crows many times & only once had an issue. There were 4 of us working some slope lift & a hawk joined us. Two of the other guys started bugging him, making passes & looping around him. He put up with a bit of it, then suddenly took a dive at one of them, made light contact & flew off.
When he brought the glider in it had several scratches on the fuse & center of the wing!

Re: Eagle Attack!

Exactly right about the Eagles being protected. I know they were on the Endangered list, maybe still there.

I was flying a Bunny (anyone remember that one?) on the slope, and spotted an eagle flying close in, between the model and myself. He immediately turned towards the model (I was sure he was about to kill it, and began evasive action. As soon as he heard the servos, he lost interest and came back to the slope. I pulled in behind him (tempting fate?), but he just folded up and shot out of sight, no contest...

And redtails are plentiful around here, one must always be on the watch for them!

Re: Eagle Attack!

The most intimidating bird encounter I had was flying slope on PEI,
a large gull swooped down and let fly a burst of 20 mm droppings on the glider.

Re: Eagle Attack!

I have seen a bald eagle soaring the N Saskatchewan valley in the city for a few years now. Gorgeous bird.

Re: Eagle Attack!

Here's an immature bald eagle who came by to look at my glider.
It looks like an attack but he was just a little playful.
Over sand dune at Clarence's Beach near Morell, PEI
Taken from my hat cam.
