A New Season!

Finally got flying again after weeks of cold, rain, snow and wind Actually it was still windy and the field is still too wet to go on the night side (yes our field is big enough that we have a morning and evening side) so I flew three flights facing the setting sun..but no matter...it was glorious!

I was flying my Aeroworks Extra 260 35% and after a winter of sim time and lots of reading about trimming and programming (SoSaw talks et al) I really concentrated on getting this bird trimmed properly. For some reason I never got things right with knife edge flight so I flew both ways, made notes, landed and programmed in some corrections. Its amazing how little it takes. I ended up with + 6 and minus 6 rudder to elevator and + 3 on rudder to aileron (Futaba) to fix a pitch to belly and proverse roll with rudder on knife edge.
Also my current prop (Biela 26/10) is not enough as the plane was going ballistic at half throttle and the cg has changed with my new Fromeco 2800 LiIons. I'm going to try my PT 27/10 prop and move the batteries forward a smidge for tomorrow. Isn't this fun

I also tried flying the new Intermediate routine but the wind became ridiculous and of course the opposite of what I have been flying the sim at. Yes I know one has to fly both ways but most people do have a favourite! Oh well almost a week and a half to get ready for Ottawa

Re: A New Season!

My new AW Yak 54 85" Span is already to go. Also have a new JR X9303 2.4 GHz system with RX and 2 remotes installed.

All I need to do now is figure out how to do the setups/programming and I will give her the maiden flight.

Nice looking bird Lee. Don't you just love the quality of these Aeroworks planes?

Re: A New Season!

Yes I think Aeroworks planes are some of the best on the planet, and some lucky pilot will be winning one at the Scale Aerobatics Nationals!!

Re: A New Season!

Lee,

If I could make a small suggestion on your trimming... work out your thrust and CG and prop first. If you change any of that after (like you are proposing) you will have to go back and redo (fine tune) some of the other mixes.

I to am headed out to go through the whole exercise in the next few days.

They say trees are 90% air. Personally I think they are 100% tree.

Yes I know that cg and thrust issues are first, but now I know how easy it is to fix rudder coupling issues, and it was fun experimenting Randy I hear ya! There is actually very little coupling and I think its mostly a cg/thrust thing right now. I guess I flew through that last year, but now I know better!
Rick how good are you with the new routine?
I'm finding the spin hard to judge 'cause I want it high enough to not have to rush the 3/4 roll to inverted Must be old age LOL!

The routine... run for your life. Any resemblance between my flight and the aresti is purely coincidental.

The three half rolls, 4 of 8 from inverted are my undoing. Don't have a clue on the roller. Just a spectator on the sticks waiting for the plane to do something, and the relief when it's over.

Spin high, you betcha.

Hey! Where's the spell check button on this thingy anyway?

Heh Heh...good one Rick I think we may need hard hats from all the falling airplanes next weekend! Well off to practice again tonight..no one else at the field, no one interested in aerobatics (let alone the ability to fly even inverted) except maybe Kent I am a rock, I am an island..etc
