Fuel Tank.........

To all you 4 strokes gurus out there. I'm building a BlackFly Aero Tomahawk ( 6/7 lbs)and using a new Saito .56. What size tank should be used and what would give MAX flight times without overloading the plane.
The box that is built to accommodate the tank looks to be about 2 and a half by three inches and about 6 inches long MAX. I don't have any tanks to see what is around that size and how many ounces. I prefer Sullivan but any will do.

Thanks

I am using the brand new GH catalog and it shows part number for sullivan 11 oz tank to be 5 1/8 L X2 1/2 W X 2 1/4 H

part no: SUL385
you may want to try looking it up on the GH site under quick search using this part number.

Thanks Jesse........hopefully that will give a decent flight time........for a Saito 56..........unless there are other . 56 owners out there. It seems to me that Jim Mac had one in his Fokker at the World's......wonder what he had.

I have a saito 80 on a 16 oz tank in my extra, and I always seem to get tired before i run out of fuel, for sure 18 minute flight at full throttle. i'm sure your 56 will give you somewhere in that 15 to 18 min range.
best way to know, is to test stand it with 11 oz in a bigger tank if you have one kicking around and time yourself...
hope it helps

You should get decent flight times with a 10oz tank and a saito 56. I know that I did when I had the saito56 in the GeeBeez with a 10oz tank. I am thinking that Jim McIntyre said he had a 10oz tank in his triplane as well.

I have 3 Saito .56's. I run either a 10 or 12 oz tank for about 15 minutes flight and that is running rich (albeit not constant full throttle either). I land with fuel. I had heard they were gas guzzlers but haven't seen that yet.

Ronnie,

You actually built that TraumaHawk???!!!

You're gonna cause all those suppressed memories of my apprenticeship to come back and haunt me!!!

BTW, I used a 12oz tank on my Chipmunk with the SAito 56, and could get 20 minute flights no problem. You point out something that SUCKS with Airsail kits though, their fuel tank boxes are too narrow for normal fuel tanks. On my first Chipmunk I ended up "modifying" a round tank, with heat.

Traumahawk?????

..............actually it's going together pretty nice. A few things got my goat on the kit, but it is on track. I'm sticking with the 10 oz as it has just enough room with a thin layer of foam around it...........and I only need it for the maiden flight only...........heheheh. Sounds like an old story lately.........I don't want to learn how to land.......just teach me how to take off.................
