I still vote for the quiet prop no matter where my flying field is. Loud props get annoying after a while IMHO.

Re: Loud Props!!! or quiet props

Well, not to burst you bubble but I have had my super tigre 90 glow rip a prop when the motor would unload. Prop ripping is much easier with motors with lots of torque and are not engine type dependent. Prop ripping is a sign of a POOR prop choice, the prop tips have gone supersonic and you are not gaining any more "thrust" past the initial start of the prop rip. With a bit of throttle management and prop selection you can get the motor to give you the best performance for your aircraft. The sound of prop ripping going super sonic will travel for several km and you may quickly find out that some neighbors don't show your enthusiasm and might start complaining.

I hope this answers your very impractical question.

Re: Loud Props!!! or quiet props

On giant scale there is no need to go with prop rips. I will go with Bryan on that one.
Running Nelsons or others that would be another story.

Re: Loud Props!!! or quiet props

The problem with North American society is that we have a attitude that the louder you are the more power you have. Reasonable people believe that less noise is better and healthier.

If you rip a prop you certainly going to get attention and most of it won't be good.
