Say what you want about the satellites, but I kind of prefer that idea over a pair of antennae. 2.4 needs line of sight and with our large planes there are things that can get in the way of the signal, such as fuel tanks and canisters. I like the idea that the radio is getting a better 'view' of the receiver with the satellites.

I'm certainly not against Futaba but I think they could do with some satellites in their system, especially for larger planes.

Now, the S-Bus system is just plain cool, though!

Re: S-Bus and JR !!!!!!!!!! Oh Baby !!!!!!

The only thing I am not sure of is how can a spektrum JR receiver control S-Bus.
Somehow I don't think JR users are actually getting S-Bus.
With an S-Bus Futaba receiver, are you not pairiong the servo by code, In a sense telling the servo " Ok, I listen to this command, but not that one" because its coded.
How do the JR receivers tell which S-Bus servo to do its thing ???

Not sure either!!! My understanding of the Futaba S-BUS is much like computer networking - each servo will only respond to a specific IP address in the signal. (For those that know anything about computers, please don't flame my pathetic analogy, LOL!!!)

The other option is to see if our LHS will do a group discount on some new 18MZ's / SBUS systems / SBUS sweetheart servos!!!!!!! - that $2200 Jack mentioned won't go far at all then!!!

No idea Brad!!! They say that there will be a bunch of telemetry coming out that the 18MZ will run. The only other perk I've read is it has all the programming / software / drivers built into the radio to assign the S-BUS Servos their IP address and also set the endpoints, center position, etc.. kinda like a built in Hitec servo programmer right in the radio. They say you just plug the servo into the radio, go to a different screen menu and set your S-Bus servos !!

Still confused though about what significant benefits it has over the 14MZ

Brad - I'm really excited to hear more about using a JR Radio for this Robbe S-BUS converter - very, very cool!!!

Re: S-Bus and JR !!!!!!!!!! Oh Baby !!!!!!

Even better news Brad!!!!!

Futaba has 2 types of cables...

Type 1: 1 meter long and 300mm long - servo male plug on one end and triple female plug on the other (for 3 servos or another extension)

Type 2: Not sure of the length - but has a "small black box" in the line with 3 leads coming out of it (for 3 servos)

Type #1 is for S-BUS servos
Type #2 is for non S-Bus Servos (not just Futaba - any servos!!)

So technically, if we can use JR Rx's on the Robbe box, we can also use JR or Hitec servos and still benefit from S-BUS!!!!

That sounds almost like what you've done already. Especially if you take the S-Bus servo out of the equation you can do this all on your own.

LOL!!! No where close!!! 7 servo leads for 5 tail servos is a huge weight penalty over SBUS.

Also, SBUS allows you to plug in batteries at any point where you can plug in a servo so no need for long battery leads going back to the Rx.

Also, with my set-up, to program a single servo at a time, means powering up all the other servos, since they have common power, which makes it impossible to adjust centers and endpoints if the others are stationary and locked with power on (ie: 3 servos on a rudder) unless you disconnect linkages, etc.

Sooo many advantages with SBUS - it's revolutionary!! Mark my works - in a couple years you'll see RED come out with something - how can they not?????

I hope they do. I'm sure the programming menus would be easier to follow, lol!
