Can't wait to get it all hooked up, and test it out!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

That makes two of us!

You should have "chain mail" early next week

Now, if I had 1/2 a brain, I woulda put this bag of instruments from Iflytailies that's sitting here staring at me, in with the chain.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Yup, lol that would have helped, working on the cockpit right now! Got three major pieces cut and fit, one is now glued in, it will be a lot of messing around, but it will look amazing when it's done!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

I'll get those shipped out shortly too.

Thought I'd post a few sorta-related photos I've found:

First is the deck of one of the RN escort carriers (possibly Pursuer w/881 Sqn.) during Operation Neptune. The Wildcats are Mk.V's

Second shows Wildcat VI's parked on an RN carrier. What a crazy way to park! How the heck did they get to the cockpit??

Third is poor HMS Nabob, the first RCN-crewed carrier, after being torpedoed by a U-boat. She managed to limp back to port like that!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Cool photos. Still amazes me that the "purists" refuse to recognize Nabob and Puncher as having to do anything with Canadian Naval Aviation. While adopting everything of the RN, the RCN seems to hate their own ancestry.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

I managed to get the vacu-formed aft cockpit bulkhead trimmed, and fitted into the plane, as well as the aft cargo compartment/rear fuel tank pieces installed last night/this AM. Even without the paint and detailing, it really stands out. Think the cockpit sides are next, then the rails leading to the rudder pedals, and after that, all the little bits and pieces.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Cool! Don't make it look *too* good, I'm gonna be nervous enough when I fly this thing

Without Puncher & Nabob, there would have been no Magnificent or Bonaventure. Talking Canadian naval aviation and ignoring those two ships is like reading a book but skipping the first few chapters. Those crews were RCN, not Canadians serving in the RN.

By the way, more off topic, have you ever heard of Lt Don J Sheppard RCNVR? The FAA's top/only Corsair ace. Did some of his training at Shearwater! Had the dubious "honour" of going into the barrier after an aerial display for the King. Definitely a worthwhile subject for a modeling a Corsair!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

I've got a set of Corsair plans on the way, Ziroli, and if I ever get the time to build it, will do his.
