I just purchased a tower hobbies voyager, the instructions call for the engine to be mounted upside down. I was wondering if I could mount it up right without any major changes?or should I leave it inverted?, it has a cowel on it but I dont care if I have to cut it differently. Also it will be powerd with a gms 47, wich prop would be the best for it? any help is much appreciated

I don't think it would matter to much if you really wanted to mount the engine upright instead of inverted. Also an 11x6 prop is good for the GMS.

I have never personally liked mounting an engine inverted. Some fellows say they do this all the time and have no problems but whenever I have tried it, I always seem to have trouble getting the darn things started. Also if left in idle for any length of time, I find that the fuel tends to dampen the glow plug and I get my engine quitting.

However, I seldom install them upright either. At times it sets the carb of the engine higher than the centre line of the fuel tank and can cause fuel draw problems and it looks ugly with the head of the engine sticking up through the top of the cowel.

I always try to mount my engines sideways. They often fit inside a cowel better this way, the carb is much easier to be set on the centre line of the fuel tank, and it just looks nicer as far as I am concerned. This is just a personal preference so you will have to decide which is best for you.

I use an 11 X 6 prop on my Thunder Tiger 46 Pro but on the GMS 47 you might consider using an 11 X 7 prop. Again this is just my personal preference as I have found it gives a little better performance!

I've mounted my engines inverted and experienced no difficulties.

BUT the engines have been Saito 4 strokes. I beleive and I may be proven wrong, 2 strokes don't like to be inverted (without an on board glow driver) because every downward stroke of the piston takes in a new charge of fuel. Which combined with any residual fuel left over from combustion will pool around the glow plug and extinguish it. Maybe I'm taking through my hat, but that's just my opinion.

Four strokes have no problems being inverted. Many two strokes either hydraulic lock and/or have problems running inverted. I like mounting a two stroke on a 45 degree angle inverted so that the muffler is underneath the plane and the fuel can't pool in the head.
