Interplane struts

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I purchased some K&S Streamline tubing today with big hopes of building my interplane struts. I arrived back home and was amazed at how quickly my simple ideas remained untried, I drew a blank.

Any good ideas out there for constructing struts without welding?

Thanx

You can flatten the tubing where you need to join it, then drill and put a nut and bolt through.
This will weaken it considerably though.

Use JB Weld epoxy to glue a tab into the tubing - then drill the tab. JB Weld is available at Crappy Tire, and bonds quite well to metal.

What Brad is saying works really well, it's light, strong, and allows you some adjustment if needed. I detailed it in my build thread, the link is below.

Good suggestion Brad. Being paranoid, I also drill holes in the tab portion inside the struts for better glue adhesion.

struts

Try copper tubes. Flatten ends and solder. No holes drilled. Paint and go fly.

Regards

Some good ideas, I'm going to try the JB weld.

I bought the last two pieces of tubing, wish me luck

Actually, I've used the tab method as well, and it works well.

Geoff:

To this point I had not reviewed your Stuka build thread. I just wanted to pass on my admiration for the exceptional work you do/did. The workmanship on this relatively complicated model is stunning!
