Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
Hello Everyone, I live in BC, Canada and I was wondering if 5.8 GHZ is legal in Canada for RC Control. What about Video?
Also, in Canada, just because a product has an IC ID#. Does it mean that you don't need a HAM license? Thanks Ardy |

Re: Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
Don't know about 5.8, but I can tell you that anything operating in the "amateur" (ham) bands requires a certified operator *and* IC ID.

Re: Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
Try Industry Canada / Spectrum Management.
The IC ID simply means the hardware has been tested and passed IC's standards. The radio operator's license ensures the person using it has some idea of what they are doing. |

Re: Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
Do you also know if you are allowed to fly the DJI phantom 3 in MAAC fields since they operate on 5.8GHZ?
Thanks Ardy |

Re: Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
"A2.9 Bands 902–928, 2400–2483.5 and 5725–5875 MHz
This section provides standards for devices that can be used for any application provided that the following conditions are met: The field strength measured at 3 metres shall not exceed the limits in the following table: Bands 902–928, 2400–2483.5 and 5725–5875 MHz – The field strength measured at 3 metres shall not exceed the limits in the following table Fundamental Frequencies (MHz) Field Strength (millivolts/m) Fundamental Harmonics Note: The limits shown in the above table are based on measurements using an average detector, except for the fundamental emission in the frequency band 902–928 MHz, which is based on measurements using a CISPR quasi-peak detector. 902–928 50 0.5 2400–2483.5 50 0.5 5725–5875 50 0.5 Emissions radiated outside of the specified frequency bands, except for harmonics, shall be attenuated by at least 50 dB below the level of the fundamental or to the general field strength limits listed in RSS-Gen, whichever is less stringent. The provisions of RSS-Gen regarding pulsed operation do not apply to CISPR measurement for the band 902–928 MHz." The above is a quote from is from IC. http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/smt-gst...10209.html#sA2 Just to make sure that I am understanding the information correctly, it means that you don't need a HAM license to operate on 5725-5825 MHZ if you obey the power limits. Thanks |

Re: Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
Re the DJI units using 5.8 GHZ for control. We do not recommend these units to be flown where 2.4 GHZ radios are in use. Those DJI units use higher powered 2.4 GHZ RF Levels for video. The potential is to cause interference with 2.4 GHZ flyers.

Re: Radios Frequencies allowed in Canada
OK. But am I allowed to fly my Phantom 3 there if there is no one else around?
