We are mandated to use ultra in our tools (saws drills pumps etc) when we are in environmentally sensitive conditions and areas. One of It's claim to fame is ability to break down within a specified period if time.
Making it easier on the environment than any other brand on the market.

Re: DA 50 - 100:1 ratio?

I have been using Amsoil Saber 100:1 in 50cc, 100's, 150's and 170cc for many years and never any issues.

Cheers,

Will

Re: DA 50 - 100:1 ratio?

My take for what it's worth. Amsoil is my oil of choice, but I would never mix anything at 100/1. not much wiggle room for error (lean run, overheat ect...). Plugs are cheap, compared to a jug or scuffed piston. Run good oil, 40:1 and fly your heart out.
Trevor Brum might be able to shed some light as well, I believe he did some experiments with the ratio's and found that 100:1 led to some pre mature wear.

My .02 worth.

I emailed DA and got the same response from Jeff:

Quote:
You can use the Amsoil Saber Professional at a ratio of 100:1. We no longer recommend it in the manual because we wanted to limit the number we suggest to just the ones we really like. The oil we like the best is Redline Racing Oil.
I thanked him and asked why they are recommending Redline over Amsoil and told him that the DA-50 manual is still recommending Amsoil 100:1. His reply:

Quote:
After 50 gallons of fuel through my DA50 there was no carbon build up at all on the top of my piston. When we get customer motors in using Redline oil it is the same senario. When we get motors in using Amsoil there tends to be carbon build up and in some cases too much so that the ring is actually frozen to the piston. The DA50 manual hasn't been updated in a while, and would probably still show the Amsoil. The newer motors have eliminated the Amsoil from the paper work.
There you have it... again.

Still one problem, though.

That manual is the point of reference. As it stands, people who buy a DA 50 new or used have no way of knowing that the oil recommendations have changed except to stumble across the information.

I think DA should update the manual.

Re: DA 50 - 100:1 ratio?

I've got the answer - Red Line at 40:1. My point is that I shouldn't have to go looking for it. DA should update the manual.

John. how long did your DA engine sit on a shelf before you bought it? At the time it was packaged it may very well have been current information. Desert Aircraft can tell you when it was manufactured by the serial #.
