Although we don't need much in the way of interference precautions with modern equipment, the idea of looping or even knotting the leads has some validity.

I recall an article in Byte magazine (remember it?) many years ago where a contibuting Electronics Engineer, Steve Ciarcia who wrote the "Circuit Cellar" articles (Still active and on the web) told how he used "poor man's surge suppressor" on everything electronic that he plugged in the wall. He tied a a half dozen equally spaced knots tightly in the power cord of each device!

Each knot acted as a choke and knocked down a surge spike by some amount, the cumulative effect being that nothing severe would reach the equipment.

The context in which this was related was his writing of receiving a new "latest and greatest" printer, and in his haste to try it out, he neglected to knot the power cord. Shortly after, his rural mountain top hideaway got a direct hit by lightening, but nothing was damaged other than the brand new printer, which was reduced to the status of a paper weight.

I have no personal experience to verify this, but Mr. Ciarcia is generally accepted as having a high level of credibility, and is known as a quite an innovator and ingenious fellow.

In my experience long servo extensions can cause severe glitching especially when used in conjunction with spark ignition systems. All of my large models are on spark ignition so for maany years I have used three-wire Beldon Shielded Cable for the long extensions. Not only do they get rid of the RF but who wants to pay ten bucks for a servo extension?? It is available at most radio supply stores. The cable has two insulated colored wires and a bare wire which is in contact with the foil shielding material inside the cable. Use one colored wire for signal, one for positive and the bare wire for the ground connection. This way the servo and the receiver is grounded. I solder this all up to get rid of too many connectors which is the source of most trouble.

Bill: I kinda figured $10 a pop was a bit extreme for what these are. 20¢ (U$) each is more like it.......though shipping will probably be the big factor here unless you are buying lots of them. These are kinda big - I'm sure there must be other sizes available for around the same price. It'll just take some web-browsing, and since I fly small/electric, I won't be the one searching......

The one Wildbill is refering to is similar the great hobbies snap on model ... only larger. I've also seen the one Bill is talking about resolve glitching problems. I just notice the price at great hobbies is 19.99 for two units, so Bills price is almost the same, only more filtering for the buck.
Then again thats a long way from 20 cents listed above...

It's been a while and my electronic skills are a little rusty. I see some talk about twisting the wires together to help suppress noice and I agree this will work but what about Capacitance.. Does twisted wire not increase Capacitance of the wire... thus causing wave shaping on your data line. Any one ever look at long twisted servo leads with a scope.. Is it still a square waveform?

I don't see how the capicitance will change by twisting the leads. They run parallel to each other anyways. But twisting them does help to minimize the noise.

Twisting Your Wire

Hey Scale Guy ; Ever use wire twisters to twist your wire :

They work pretty good.

The new expensive ones can twist both ways too

You can get some cheap ones at Princess Auto or you can get the expensive ones from your SNAPON dealer.
