My toy

I know it is a toy crawler but it is very cool. I took a couple pics to show it off...

I will start the mods tonight, but right now I am going with DVO to try it out stock. in the house it climbs anything... I can't believe how big this freaking thing is. And for $150 it's a killer deal. Bonus is my spare gel cel for pit charging is exactly the same size.... yes it uses a 4200 mah gel cel for power.....

It's a Nylint Scorpion.

This is a vid of DVO trying it out. After driving it a bit I found if you go bull slow and just find your path with a little steering, it would go through the rocks like nothing... I am impressed for a toy...

gotta remember it's 40 lbs so shipping isn't cheap!!

Here's pics DVO took while I was driving. Chucky gave it a go as well. Without changing a thing it is very capable and a lot of fun. Don't be fooled by the goofey looking top LOL... And guess where the expensive carbon VW bug body is going muahaha

Thanks go to Gixxer for dropping me off a set of savage shocks.... now the motivation to make it perform a little better

Chop Chop hack hack.... so far it's beed hobby knife, hacksaw and dremmel..... this is the truck an hour ago, I'll have to take a couple to show what is gone so far..... am doing the tummy tuck now..... I have removed the electronics and just cut the belly off the center chassis... way more clearance. A bread pan was donated to the cause that just happens to be a perfect fit for the hole. I will screw/bolt it to the sides. removed from about 1/14 inch above the decal you can see on the side. it'll just be a somewhat flat aluminum plate now.... with the savage shocks another bonus. the stock shocks will just pull apart at full extension, hence the limiters. I just have to remount the upper positions on the shocks (closer to center), pull the limiters, dremmel a couple smaller pieces off and stretch both ends....

Next, I attack the rear motor mounting, remove the high gear setup from both ends, hack the cases up and make smaller skids. I also have some big chunks of delrin.... I get free scraps and lots of it if I needed... I almost made the center part but I don't want to raise the battery too much. I allready am planning on it mounting on it's side.... more pics to come after I hack a few more things up... oh ya I am hacking the tires up too... they are only $12 a set of 4 mounted on rims so I will grab another set and try narrowing the wheels next after all this crap is done

Here ya go, a couple pics of last night's chopping and hacking. Add a set of tin snips to the arsenal, plus shoe goo, a drill and an electric screwdriver...

the lower shock mounts were a real pain to get out, and I had to do some drilling to get them out. now I have to figure a way to mount the shocks out....

anyway, you can see the chunk I cut off the bottom of the chassis. the tummy tuck. gives it a lot more ground clearance for sure, about 2 inches. the limiters for the back axle rotation I removed (I could have taken more but I need to test and be sure). I had done the rear extension and it is just a matter now of unscrewing 6 screws and moving the bracket back. another option for later... the battery will now be on it's side so the cog won't have change too bad. now to mount the shocks and put the electronics back in...

and I will just put links to the other 3 pics

Almost done. I have the tummy tuck finished. I siliconed some hard foam inside the battery/electronics tray to cover the bread pan. gives it a little more strength and protects from puncture or shorting out. I still have to make a bracket to keep the battery from sliding. I am using a couple releasable zap straps mounted to the chassis to hold it down.

Today, I stretched the front and rear to make it about an inch longer and I gained about 2 inches clearance with the tuck. Thn I made some lower shock mounts and fabbed a quick shock tower with a piece of thick fibreglass and mounted the savage shocks on back. I have them inbound (leaning in to center of chassis), and are actually right against each other at the top of the tower. it gives me the full travel of the shock in either direction. The articulation is awesome now.

Next I cut every second groove off the tires and flipped them around. this helps get some grab. I fixed the one rim the beauty ring busted off too. if I hadn't glued that allready, I found I could have narrowed the rims easy... oh well a set of tires and rims is $12 US so I will get another set and try it out. that would give it more clearance.

I saw a mod to lift it another inch too, so I will look at that for next weeks mods. I need to mod the cases and skid plates next. Good part is it's all free fixes for the most part, just crap I have laying around.... and a set of shocks donated by Gixxer (THANKS GIXXER)...

Here's a couple pics to show the progress. I think it looks way more real now...

I just finished it. I have clamps on while glue is drying. I'll take some pics of the mounts for the shocks. after some figuring out travel and crap, it went together pretty easy. I just glued velcro straps on for battery so I could lay it on it's side, and I remounted the power switch inside.

the articulation now is so close to rubbing the body I almost have to trim the body back. I should be able to take it for a burn tonight and I will take another video. I will go over to the same spot I took last video for a fair comparison in ability.

for the money you can't beat these things. take a drive across the border and head to walmart. most places are $50 us but I have hyeard some walmarts are clearing them out for as low as $35
