Top of the wing is done, several coats of gloss white, wet-sanded between coats. Also, a shot of the final colour scheme.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

It's funny how I got stuck with the hours of wet sanding, and spraying, and she's doing all the colour trim. I think I'm being abused! lol

Elevators and rudder attached, very close now to getting some colour on the fuse and tail feathers!

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

While Leeann makes a marking template for the Maroon paint lines, I managed to get the ailerons and flap hinges epoxied into place, all the servos hooked up, and checked. Then, a wet-sanding of the undersides of the wing, and another coat of gloss white. Really getting the hang of the Krylon paint now, this coat went on very uniform, no runs, no orange peels. Took a bit! The Maroon is to be air-brushed on, while the silver and the metallic charcoal are Krylon spray paint. Once Leeann gets the template roughly drawn out, she'll remove it from the fuselage, and then do the final drawing of the line, cut that out, and we can then use it for marking the line on the fuse. The template ensures that both sides will be identical.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Dave, a couple of questions...

1. Are the flap linkages internal?
2. Why are the aileron linkages at the end of the ailerons instead of more in the centre?

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

1. Yes. Same setup as the Top Flite P-47, works great.
2. Cause! lol The instructions said so. Assuming they did that to allow max space for the servos, as the wing thins and tapers from that point on. Also, remember old days of RF interference, and worries about length of servo extensions. Given the rigidity of the ailerons, and the fact that it's a Cessna, and will be flown scale, I've got zero worries about the setup, don't think we have to worry about the ailerons flexing.

PS the flap setup is super simple, if you want, download either the Cessna or P-47 manual, for how it's done, very useful on other setups, would work on most flap types. I thought about doing that on the split flaps of my P-39, but landing gear location required a different approach.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Leeann, who's off today, lucky girl, is telling me that she's got the engine cowl wet-sanded where the Maroon will be painted, and the lines for the Maroon are all drawn out on the fuselage. So, hopefully tonight we can set up her new airbrush, do a bit of practice with it, and then get the Maroon painted!

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Yes , No issues with the setup on the ailerons as Dave says they do not twist as they are built up and the design is from the old days to keep leads shorter and smaller digital servos not available at the time for power needed. I did change the internal flap to a double horn and swivel link. works very smooth. I was a little worried about horn flex at the time so added the double horn on the flap. Attached picture as not sure if posted before. You can see the change on the right flap .

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Your setup Len, is by far superior to the stock setup. I like. I probably knew about it, but hopefully after Leeann built the flaps stock! lol
