Put the CS9012 fan with 1500kv motor back in today. Checked the watt meter and discovered it only draws about 150watts more than the 6 blade setup. Perhaps my expected gains in flight time were too optimistic. ...
The 12 blade fan sure sounds better.

Hi Eric,

I love Vampire models and have long wanted the Ready to Fly version. Do you know of any available in Canada?
Kind regards,

Ken

MotionRC in the USA usually has them. Unfortunately they recently jacked up the price ;(

Re: Ready2Fly Freewing 90mm Venom Kit, 1.5M wing span (video added)

The 6 blade FW fan described in post 38 had been working well for many flights with a very pleasant sound due to it's dynamic balance but today the fan came apart as power was applied for takeoff. The plastic spinner was intact and none of the blades penetrated the shroud but the motor mount area had cracks forming around the screws. No sign of blade damage from FOD just a bunch of cleanly broken blades and a section of the hub missing. A flaw in the hub or fatigue perhaps? A new fan and shroud will be ordered but for the time being I will lend a FW 12 blade setup to keep the plane flying.
It just goes to show you can never trust even the smoothest running fans.

Re: Ready2Fly Freewing 90mm Venom Kit, 1.5M wing span (video added)

The new 6 blade fan is working great in our friends Venom. So nice to fly a jet with the timer set to 7 minutes for practicing landings. Unfortunately the plane landed long and went down an embankment hitting a culvert with enough force to remove the nose ahead of the intakes. The nose leg needed some JB weld to repair a broken pivot attachment but the retract is fine (surprising how much force the FW retracts can take).Luckily the battery only suffered a couple broken balance leads which were easy to repair. The crushed parts were put in a pot of hot (not boiling) water and the wrinkles were massaged out. The next morning I glued it back together with PU glue which has made it as strong as ever. A little silver spray paint will finish it off. It is looking a little battle worn but it still flies like new.

Recently we covered the cheater hole along the belly over the stock ESC opening to reduce grass and debris injestion. No loss of thrust or performance was noticed. Before it was covered it would suck in large amounts of grass clippings.

Re: Ready2Fly Freewing 90mm Venom Kit, 1.5M wing span (video added)

Just began assembling the red and white version of the Freewing 90mm Venom (kit+ which comes with retracts servos, wiring but no EDF or ESC). The package came within a week (using the cheapest shipping) from RCCastle and was well packaged without any shipping damage. We had a 6 blade 90mm FW fan from another Venom which had passed on to the foam graveyard in the sky. It performed and sounded quite nice drawing only about 70amps settled so a Hobbywing 80amp ESC will be used (same as the type in the FW F14). A Turnigy BEC is needed as the ESC was OPTO. We took the shortened nose gear from the departed Venom and installed it in the new one along with removing all the nose gear doors to keep things simpler to maintain. The main gear retract mounting screws all seemed to be stripped as if someone used a power screwdriver but that was easy to fix by putting a couple small wires into each hole and reinserting the screws.
