Aleron Stiff

Hi

I perchased my first ARF , A Hanger-9 Alpha 40 . Iinstalled the ailerons and after doing so I found them very stiff . I followed the proceder in the manuel to the letter . I worked them by hand . to try and get the stifness out . They are CA hinges, and no CA has goten into the torque rods , nor has the CA gotten into the trailing or leading edge of the ailerons . What I would like to know is what is the norm for CA hinges . I worked on my LT-40 hinges untill they wre absolutly free , I used Robart hinges I was satisfied . The movement on these CA hinges are not the same Is there a procedure that I am missing or am I being too tempermental ? The movement on the ailerons is 5/16 and 1/4 inch Is there somthig I can do to help the situation . I also found out that the aileron control rods are not even , ( anyone got some Aspirins ) I believe I can solve this problem . If anyone can help it would be appreciated . I have the aspirins I have that covered

Thanks

Mike

Did you leave a 1/16 gap between the wing and the aileron? The only other thing I can think of is that CA ran in the gap and hardened. Otherwise your best bet is to show it to an experienced guy in your club or in your area. If it is stiff and doesn't move freely you should fix it or you could end up in disaster.

Hi Hillmanr2

You got it . No I did not leave a 1/16 gap . The instruction said 1/32 , and also the leading edge isn t straight . I got caught .While in the process of finishing the ARF I learnt thot it is better to leave a larger gap than the manuel calls for . I did tset the system and it does seem to opperate alright , but I will still get an experieced club member to look at the opperation . I did the tail end useing a larger gap and both rudder and elevater came out fine . If neededI will rebuild the ailerons from scratch , useing the ecsisting ones .

Thank you Hillmanr2

I always support the troops .

aileron stiff

HI you may still save those ailerons. Just cut them out. Using your hobby knife...run the blade in the hinge slot on each side of hinge very carefuly. You should be able to free up the hinge and pull it out and then rehinge with new ones. Make sure to leave at least 1/16 of an inch gap.
