Actually, it's Polish. There were about 15,000 AN-2's built in Poland vs about 2500 in Russia.

The good idea to built plane with minimum 2m wingspan and 40cc gas engine. If you try to built smaller plane, you will have problem with center of gravity. AN-2 has too short nose.
