What kind of oil & mix are you running? I just asked our local 3D pro if he cleans his canisters & he said since he switched to redline there is nothing to clean.

I switched to IPONE a few years back from amsoil , for the first few flights after the change there was a ton of black crap coming out of my pipes . runs clean now.

The oil may keep the engine clean but some of these guys are running Redline and their cans are still plugging up. So I would not assume that if you run Redline that you don't need to check the status of your exhaust system. Just saying .....

I run Stihl ultra (just as good as RL IMO ) but I am going to pull my can this winter & clean it because I bought it used & never thought of cleaning it.

I been running Belray H1R (synthetic) for the last two years and for the two years before that I was running Penzoil (dino juice). These cans and headers were purchased used from Brad Egan who probably burned a few gallons as well! After 4 years this is the first time they have been cleaned. It will not be the last however as this will be part of my yearly tear down and service at the end of the season!

BTW I mix the Belray at 40:1 (as per the instructions from Belray). Probably a much higher oil ratio than I really need but it helps me sleep at night

I run redline at 60:1 and my pipes were still clogged up. I think yearly cleaning of pipes is good practice. The difference before and after was dramatic to say the least!
