Thank you to MAAC
I have been a MAAC member for around 35 years probably now. There were a couple years I didn't fly and didn't renew, but only a couple.
I see people complain about MAAC all the time but I rarely see people say thank you. It's time to say thank you to MAAC. For $80 a year not only do I get my insurance (which is the least expensive insurance I pay for at any given time!!!) but........ I get an organization that fights for the RC modeler. When stupid crap happens in this hobby like the morons flying FPV into full scale airspace, MAAC is the organization that deals with Transport Canada. I get a network of clubs, committee's, and people across Canada with event listings, a magazine to show me what's going on in the rest of the country and show me many events happening across the country (sorry RCC, but looking for event listings on here is horrific when they aren't even separated by province) I get a voice in my own hobby should I feel the need to speak out on something, be it to my own zone director or at a zone meeting. I get to be part of an organization that has promoted SAFE RC modeling to kids groups for decades and has helped some of our top pilots compete at national and world levels to further our sport. I get to be part of something that honors the pioneers, past present and future of this hobby in this country. I belong to an organization that has rules and regulations that keep us safe in our hobby along with guidelines for wings programs etc that help to ensure success in our hobby. Without MAAC and the ability to fly at MAAC fields we legally are far more limited to where we can fly when it comes to transport Canada regulations as well as many city bylaws. There are many cities that have bylaws stating you cannot fly RC models at all within city limits UNLESS it is a sanctioned designated air field. If I had to complain about ANYTHING regarding MAAC it would be only that they still don't accept PayPal when renewing my MAAC insurance. Not all of us have credit cards and that makes renewals a little tougher but even that is a once a year thing and if that is all I have to complain about I should just stop complaining. So thank you MAAC, I've been a member for nearly 35 years and health willing I hope to be for another 35 years!!! Jeremy MAAC 29228 |

Re: Thank you to MAAC
And a big THANK YOU (with thumbs-up) to you, Jeremy.
I've got a year or two in MAAC on you, and I've seen the running-down of MAAC on this and other websites in spite of all the things that MAAC does do for us. Yes, you really don't get to see many people standing up and saying thank you. ... Bruce |

PayPal has been approved by the MAAC Board. It is in the process of being set up. It's a bit of a longer more involved process to set up for a Not for Profit Organization than what most of know personally. But, it is coming. And will be on the website once its all set up. Re: Thank you to MAAC
Thanks for that post Jeremy, well said.
I'm 65 years old now and have seen legislation and enforcement totally eliminate many active sports from street drags on Richmond's Finn Road to Boat Racing in Dease Slough and now Back Country Snowmobiling and ATV activities. Rules, Regulations, Licencing, Insurance coverage, Power Limitations, Noise, Operation Hours, User Area access - (at a cost now), on board safety equipment, Vehicle Inspection Certification, Emissions Control, Hazardous Materials Handling, (WE DO PLAY WITH NITRO METHANE and LITHIUM) both of which are VERY HAZARDOUS, how long do We think We can continue as independent individuals without a group of dedicated people that will stand up in support of us as a group of dedicated conscientious hobbyists? Re: Thank you to MAAC
I'm thankful for their existence & why they do too. As strange as it may sound to those who see me photographing events I joined way back in 59 when living in Downsview & someone on the base started a club. That would mean I was 13 years old, and my father recommended I join because of my very serious interest in flying model airplanes. The club mentored me, made me join MAAC so I could fly at the local field (which was WAY out in the boonies at Keele & Finch) & compete. I stayed a member for a few years but other things came along including drag racing & car shows, & eventually photography which led me back to model flying events & back to flying R/C PROPERLY or maybe I should say Safely because I'd learned the MAAC safety rules from attending events. In the mid 70's to mid 80's I had flown both free flight & R/C next door to where I built my house, which was a pretty rural area then & I had little concern if I flew R/C over the road (which is busy) or near the few homes that were here then. Thanks to learning the MAAC way of doing things I now fly (I have my own private field) in accordance with the rules & am a member again.
As a side note I think MAAC needs to become more public. They need to push their existence & why they exist by working their way into some agreements with the various businesses in Canada selling things that fly that need more airspace then a back yard. The explosion of "drone" sales by businesses like Camera Stores & Electronics stores that have never been a part of the "flying models" hobby & couldn't know nor understand the risks they place their customers to by simply selling them what they came to buy.

Re: Thank you to MAAC
MAAC was there when I needed them most!
I started up a brand new Jet event in the town of Iroquois set for the July 4th weekend Well I had to deal with the Airport people and the towns people and of course insurance for the event had to be handled by MAAC Headquarters "Linda" and here team". Thank God because this stuff was way above my pay-level of knowlegde - Long story short - They got it done and put to bed with all the " I's dotted and T's crossed " After a couple months of back & forth its all done. I used my go-between my Zone G Director Chris Malcomnson who nothing but fantastic to work with " Thanks MAAC - Thanks Linda - Thanks Chris Now I can say Let the fun begin!
