I was wondering how you guys manage your time when it comes time
for building.I find it difficult to find time to even put an arf together,let
alone build a kit or from plans.I really want to hear from people who
are still holding down fulltime jobs and not retirees.As I get older it
seems I spend more time daydreaming about what I should do,rather
than doing it.

when it comes time to building I have to go full out. Start on Fri night and keep on trucking through sat. (which I take off in the event of a new plane) Sunday's for flying so if she's not done I will do a couple of hours thru the week at night. I can only watch tv for a short time anyway.

I also have a problem finding time to work on planes or assemble ARF's. I have 3 small kids and I like to spend time with them after work. The only way I can find time to work on my planes (or assemble new ARF's) is when they are in bed. This gives me an hour before I have to go to bed. The only problem is that I'm usually tired at that point and it takes me twice as long to do anything.

I know there are a few members of my club (and I'm sure on RCC as well) that love to build but don't really fly. I would like to make friends with these people!!

When you get both feet into those G.D. "golden years", time is more than precious. My missus and I agreed early on (40 yrs this Aug) that our hobbies are important, (she's a quilter), not just for personal enjoyment, but for the distraction from day-to-day turmoil, and for some "me" time. Time to put aside the diiapers, bills, and other joys of family life, time to relax the worry and work part of the brain' and exercise the creative part. You can't have the time every day, but set aside an hour or two, and cherish it, you'll be better off for it!

A few years ago, the only building time I could scrape up was a couple of minutes before bedtime. I'd glue something together; then the next morning while waiting for the kettle to boil, I'd go back and check on the part, and remove the clamps, pins, etc... not much, but over the course of a week of two, a lot of progress had been made. The key is consistency..doing a little bit every single day....

Well no kids so that's not an issue.

I have time everyday. My wife lives at the gym so when I get home from work just grab some dinner then head down to the shop...pop up around this time, (midnight) spend an hour or so here on RCC then bed. Up at 5 am go to work and start all over again at 5 pm.

Weekends, build all day Saturday/Saturday night, and Sunday... winter only. In summer at the field from 9 AM to 9 PM come home build for a couple of hours then back at field on 9 AM Sunday morning. Course I could be away for the weekend at a IMAC contest from time to time so yeah that does cut into the building time.

Secret: Stay away from TV!

I always find time to work on my projects, i havent done much in last few days due to my foot injury but most of the time i am always working on either one of 4 projects going at the same time, i dont watch TV that much to keep myself busy with building and now i wont be doing much either due to operation i had on my foot yesterday, i am currently on chutches so i'll mostly be here or on G2 till i restart walking on my own....

Yep. yhat's the trick.

Now that the kids are a bit older, and spending some time at their friends, I have more time to build. Like already said, avoid the TV and you'll be amazed how much time you actually have.

I actually do the opposite, have a TV in the workshop. Instead of sitting on the couch and watching news, NASCAR, etc I can build at the same time. Works for me.
