Yes IP's are very traceable, but the problem is they only identify a location... NOT a person. He could have been connecting at a wifi hotspot, and thats the location he would be traced to.

He could have also been using some kind of secure browsing service: tor, vpn, proxy.... something like that.

Hopefully he was stupid though, and used his home internet, then it really shouldn't be that hard to track him down.

Re: Scammed? Greeekt

$350 to one person, there may be more. If they can bust him on one, they will investigate every EMT deposit he has.

If inisfail was closer I would go for a drive if I could Google his address. Providing the facebook profile is his. It lookes like the guy works as a battery operator

Re: Scammed? Greeekt

How about RCCanada create a closed thread that lists scammers that have been reported? So all members especially new members can see who's on the list. I like the idea of people chipping in when someone is scammed, but that doesn't solve the problem. Cheers Floyd

not much point if the guys keep changing user names and IP addresses etc....plus, who decides who is or is not on the list? what if you are on the list unjustly, how do you get off the list? I see a whole can of worms here that no one wants to be mixed up in, but just my opinion.

It's still buyer beware. The one and only time I got scammed here on RCC was by a long time member,(not a large amount, but a thief is still a thief regardless) but what goes around comes around..... there was a lengthy thread awhile back here on RCC how this 'poor fellow',(my scammer) got scammed by someone else here on RCC.....there is karma after all I guess.....

I agree, best way is don't buy anything expensive from a seller who has no rating. It is best for a seller to start by selling small items and work their way up as they get a good reputation...

Re: Scammed? Greeekt

I am going to try and get a 100 post minimum before a member can buy or sell in the classifieds.
At least after a 100 posts we should no whether or not the guy is legit and even into RC.
I believe these latest scammers are just nothing but a waste of skin having never participated in the hobby.
