Spektrum AR6100e deal?

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
So I am new to this hobby (again - started 25 years ago but didn't get far then) and am looking for some Spektrum receivers.

Lots of talk about the OrangeRX and they look like that might be a way to go, but I did find this and am wondering if anyone has ordered from this company or see anything too suspicious about them.

http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs...olesalers.html

I guess for the price of $30 shipped for 5 units, hard to go wrong.

Any advice or info on the 6100e RX would also be appreciated. Will be using with a DX6i for an Align 450 and probably a park flyer airplane.

Re: Spektrum AR6100e deal?

Those are most likely clones not actual spektrum units. There are a lot of them out there. Not sure how well they work but would not suggest you use them in anything too expensive. Use at your own risk as spektrum certainly will not warranty them.

Aliexpress is a wholesale site, mostly for manufacturers from China so you won't find any authorized dealers there unless they are of a chinese brand.

For about $5 more you can order from Hobbyking and get some other stuff you need as well. At least the orange ones have somewhat a proven record.

Re: Spektrum AR6100e deal?

Thanks for the info.

Will probably buy the real deal or OrangeRX as it seems most are having good luck with them.

I agree that saving a few bucks to risk the cost of a model isn't worth it.

Which genuine Spektrum 6 ch RX would be suggested?

There are some used AR6100e units available out there.

or
AR600
AR6115
AR6210

Re: Spektrum AR6100e deal?

Just an FYI:

Parkflyer RX's - Small <4ft WS electric planes and small heli's:

AR6000: 1st gen DSM RX. No longer available. Works with all DSM/DSM2 TX's. It DOES NOT work with any of the newer DSMX TX's.
AR6100: 2nd gen DSM2 RX. No longer available. Models prior to v1.6 had some issues.
AR6110: 3rd gen DSM2 RX. No longer available. Replaced the AR6100, smaller size, HOLD LED allows you to verify any issues with communication.
AR6115: 4th gen DSMX RX. Added DSMX (backwards compatible with DSM2), double the resolution to 2048 bit, and data port.

Full Range RX's - Larger planes & heli's, nitro/gas:

AR500: 1st gen DSM2 RX. No longer available.
AR600: 2nd Gen DSMX RX, replaced the AR500. Added 6th channel, DSMX, (backwards compatible with DSM2), double the resolution to 2048 bit, and data port.
AR6200: 1st gen DSM2 RX. No longer available. Comes with satellite RX. Good for large planes and heli's.
AR6210: 2nd gen DSMX RX. DSMX (backwards compatible with DSM2), double the resolution to 2048 bit.
AR6250: 1st gen DSM2 RX. Intended for gliders with Carbon Fibre fuselages. Short lived RX that was recalled and replaced by AR6255.
AR6255: 2nd gen DSMX RX. Replaces the AR6250

Micro RX's:

AR6300: 1st gen DSM2 RX. Intended for micro planes.
AR6400: 1st gen DSM2 RX. Found in the Parkzone & E-Flite UM and UMX planes.

Note: The 'e' added to the above models denotes and end pin version. Functionally, the RX is identical.

Any of the above are good. As the previous poster mentioned, the AR6100e is commonly faked so I tend to stay away from them.

I have both the AR600 (I use it in larger planes as it is full range) and the AR6115e (mainly small electric parkflyers and indoor planes). Both are solid RX's.

The AR6210 is suited for larger planes and heli's. There is no real advantage unless you are flying a big (>5ft WS) plane or a glider that can get way up there. The reason for using these full range RX's is the multiple receiving antennas. They help overcome the signal shadowing effect produced by large IC motors, battery packs, metal or CF fuselages, etc. On a small plane, you will never notice the difference.

Re: Spektrum AR6100e deal?

Philipa...
Thanks for the info on this topic. Just saw a guy selling some used stuff... googled it to read some reviews - then noticed a few on different sites (as the original guy on this thread did) for $9.95-$19.99 for new... but might not be legit.

I to have read/heard from people about the "orange" rx's from HK - and they do sound like the way to go... but I'll keep my eye out for some used Spek Rx's... like the AR6115.

THANKS - great help.

Re: Spektrum AR6100e deal?

I can understand why some wouldn't want to spend $50-$100 on a good RX for a foamie. I would likely do the same actually.

But I spend far too much time on my balsa models to risk a cheap RX.

I just noticed CommonSenseRC sells a clone Spektrum RX, the 'RX3000'

But at $29.99 it's a bit steep. I can buy real Spektrum AR6115's at a discount from my LHS for just a few dollars more.
