Help Paint won't stick!

Tried painting Coroplast with 21 Century spary paint. When I pulled the tape on my sun-burst design almost half the paint pulled away with the tape. Yuk what a mess.

I want to get the rest of the old paint off and start again.

Whats the best way too paint COROPLAST?

Ken,

You might want to ask this in the Combat Forum as I think these guys have the most experience with what you are asking about.

I'd be interested to know as well so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Rustoleum (spray can) works great. Also krylon.

It takes about a day to dry so leave it alone once on. Masking tape for the lines works pretty good. As long as it sticks tight, the lines are crisp and no bleeding.

Glow fuel has NO effect on the dried product. I have had NO problems with glow fuel taking it off. Others say certain colours come off with fuel but I have had perfect results with it. Have used red, green, white so far with 100% success.

If possible pull off the masking tape while the paint is still wet.

scuff sand the area to be painted - with at least 320 paper.

second when you remove the masking tape pull it off at a VERY sharp ANGLE ----- NOT straight up !!!

CAREFULL USING SANDPAPER. Fine stuff is ok bit IMHO it is not needed at all.

Using paper that is too coarse will leave scratches that the paint won't fill.

I only sanded once. I found I did not need to in order to get the rustoleum to stick.

If you leave the tape on till the paint is dry, all that will happen is you end up with a "bit" higher paint edge than if you took it off after it was a little bit dry.

well 360 paper is fine.... for painting..

plus if you WANT fine lines between the 2 colour use a fine tape - like 3M GREEN tape....or even better auto stripping tape.

next after you tape off the area to paint you should LIGHTLY paint that area again with the first colour... this fills the edges and stops the paint for bleeding and will give you a FINE edge ....

next remove the tape if you can before the paint totally dries will let the edge flow out a little making it smother.
