2 First for the 28 Nov 08 Ski's-ON lets fly!
YIPPPEEEE!!!!
Went out to the Rideau RC Flyers field in Ottawa and found out that no one had been there since we got our first good snow this past week. So I was First in getting out with the ski's. I got my to fly off virgin snow and the second first today was the Maiden flight of the production kit of the Gold-Finch 40. Two clicks left aileron and it was flying hands off. I hope to get out Saturday morning for some more ski flying fun!

Re: 2 First for the 28 Nov 08 Ski's-ON lets fly!
Thanks!
The plane handled better than expected! Take off was nice and smooth on ski's and the plane was rock steady and only need a tweak of aileron to fly hands off. I had the plane on high rates and the roll rate was crisp and fast. The plane is a real floater and I had to adjust the idle lower to help get her down. Plane flew a tad faster than the original red prototype. I think this due to the newer slimmer fuselage.

Still waiting for snow in my part of "The County", but I hear the eastern part has some. Maybe I'll get some soon.
Gotta get busy putting the skis on some planes!

Re: 2 First for the 28 Nov 08 Ski's-ON lets fly!
I agree models do fly better in the denser winter air great for the wings to bite onto for lift etc. Motors love it for power.
Note for all you guys down in the tropic's of PE county and even those in the Banana belt of the Golden Horseshoe the entire province is going to get a SNOW-Day on Monday. So get out flying Sat or wait till after the storm. Then everyone will be singing SKI's on!

Re: 2 First for the 28 Nov 08 Ski's-ON lets fly!
Hi markfell,
Cool(pun intended) Flying out there in BC. Nice video.! ! ! Check this out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oJ6JJC3uLM Nov.23rd.08 Onslaught over Ontario. 12-18in. of really fluffy snow and skiis are a challenge ! ! ! The snow was so soft even floats would have been a challenge. Ken, The Gold-Finch is a real Beauty. A modern classic design that looks like a model airplane. I like it ! I'll bet it will go great off of water on floats too... The planes that 'look right' always fly the best... Take care, Have fun, Dave'crosscheck'Fallowfield Maac 6437 Unabashed Combat Tam |

Re: 2 First for the 28 Nov 08 Ski's-ON lets fly!
A modern classic is right! the Gold-Finch 40 was my attemp to recapture my youth flying Florio-Flyers etc at fun/flys at Kingston Ont. - I seem to get alot of comment on how it would be a excellent float flying plane. I may ask Martin Rousseau of MR AeroDesign who is making the laser cut kits to add an extra set of landing gear blocks so the person building it has the option of making it float ready.
Just a thought?
