gee I didnt know that anyone was following this. Cool!
I didnt get to take pictures today, but tomorrow night I will probably do a bit more work on it so I will try. If it runs, and runs well, I will do up plans and offer as a casting/plans set like many other engines I allready do that for.

Keep it coming Andrew . This is one thread I really like to watch. Watching you create a motor out of a chunk of metal will always keep me interested.

Andrew,
I've wondered where you were. I've been waiting for you to post more on this engine. Remember you are the one who hod gottten me interested in finding my metal lathe under a pile of this, that and everything else. I'm just waiting for one more gear from the LHS, and my geared .049 will be done. :P Dave |

OK OK guys, thanks. I honestly did not think there was that much interest here in the engine building stuff.
I made it to the shop tonight, and pretty much finished the engine, just have to get my cog wheels and belt and mount them, and try a run! I took a buch of pictures, here is what I did.... Firstly, here is a shot of the backplate. Machined from 1" aluminum alloy plate. Not hard to do, but lots of chips. If I was making more than one I would do a pattern and cast it.

Here is the inside of the backplate. You can see the rotor that engages with the drive pin on the crankpin, and the shaft (3/16) goes through the backplate and rides on twin bearings.

here are the drive washer, collet and prop washer, all simple turnings. The collet is brass, and split - same as many commercial engines use

Here is the piston, con rod and wristpin. The ring also. Notice the large cut outs for clearing the crank disk, and backplate.
