If you do decide to put a fuse between your battery and ESC I would highly recommend that it be rated a bit higher than the ESC and that it be a time delay fuse.

Wouldn't it also be simpler to just do fod check of your field and get rid of random speaker wire? Hitting someone with flying wires from a lawnmower could really hurt someone.

The speaker wire wasn't on the flying field, our club field is next to a large trout pond which we also use to float fly. I had just bounced the plane a little too hard on the water & sprung the wire float struts so set it down on the opposite side of the pond to straiten the struts & check for other damage before continuing the flight. Upon walking around to the other side I found the speaker wire all wrapped around the motor & prop. It doesn't ever get mowed over there!

My concern is also for my powered gliders with folding props. If one was to bump the throttle with the glider on the ground, the results would be the same!
