Hey Trevor, another quick question. The plan shows the gear plate attached to the bottom of the fuse sides. See my photo with can.
On your build of the 32.5 Yak the gear plate is between the fuse sides.
Was that a change you made? Or did the design change.
One possible advantage to the way you did it is ease of fairing.
Alot easier to fair in 1/4 balsa than ply.

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Hey Jason!!

No.. go with what the plans call for. This was my experimentation to raise the gear up into the m-box by 1/4" so that the rounded belly (and the gear plate cover) would cover more of the gear.

Turned out to be a lot more hassle than gain!!

The way the plans show is best!!!

Cheers

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Thanks Trevor, never know till you try. I'll stick with the plan.
SWB mount came in today.
On another issue, do you seal off any access for air flow back into the fuse.
I am assuming yes to prevent pesssure build up.

I'd say personal preference!! Some do, some don't

I never do! - I personally don't care if my pilots feel pressurized or not, LOL!!!

Scaleguy has a different view on this, so I'll throw that out to steer the banter towards your thread, LOL (your thread had been relatively untouched so far, so we need to rectify that!!)

Cheers

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

I didn't seal off the motor box to the fuselage either. My take on is
If we do the cowl hot air exits properly..ie: big enough..
The air will flow out the bottom of the cowl and the fuselage shouldn't pressurize.
I have found that the guys who blow their canopy and hatches off, didn't duct the cowl properly

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

That was the concern, popping canopies. I had read of this phenomenon.
My last one I sealed and put a dime sized hole in the tail the relieve pressure.
I assumed everyone diid it until I started looking closely at some of Trevors lightened airframes.

I've never heard of popping a canopy!!! That'd be some serious pressure to tear a canopy off!!!... I'd bet you'd pop a hole in the covering or sheeting before popping a canopy!!

I once lifted my 35% 330 up from under the fuse and it slipped out of my hands and I saved it by getting my nails under the hatch and was holding the fuse by the hatch!!!

But it's simple to cover for piece of mind!

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Well, I guess thats just one less thing to worry about.
I do tend to over compensate a bit.

Yep Better safe than sorry!!

It'd probably also keep dust and stuff out, perhaps?

Re: Carden 32.5% Yak Build

Actually I meant I guess I can skip it. I tend to over build due to lack of experience.
No progress tonight, had to spend some time fixing my tractor before the snow flies.
