would a pilot be disadvantaged

quick question for you guys

would a pilot be disadvantaged flying a imac legal bi-plane over a mono winged plane. I would be flying the basic sequence for at least a few years.

For BASIC you can fly anything so there is no IMAC Legal Bipe. i think you are getting confused between IMAC and IMAA. IMAA has a minimum wingspan for bipes and monos but IMAC does not.

What BIPE are you looking at? A Pitts or Eagle may be a bit squirley unless big enough but an Ultimate should be OK.

A bipe would be fine. Who knows, next year they may be all the rage. Taking your time and trimming it properly will yield better results then flying a mono plane.

IMAC legal means it is within 10% of scale

If you have one then great. If you are thinking of buying one, there may be some better choices for this type of flying. The rudder looks to be on the small side. Ultimates fly very well.
Either way, if you have your heart set, trim it out properly and fly basic with it. (IMAA legal as Jim thought)

Brian,

Beautiful plane. As Jim say's; as long as the spinny thing is on the front and not on top it's OK for IMAC and if within 10% then good for any of the classes.

Have seen a few biplanes in Basic. I think there is a reason you don't see many (in IMAC). I believe most would recommend a mono. A bipe is a lot more work to assemble and tear down and they do tend to be heavier.

They say trees are 90% air. Personally I think they are 100% tree.

I thought the full scale version also had to compete in IAC??? Am I smokin'?

I don't think Bipes present as well and I think they are harder to fly in IMAC. I think it will be much harder to tell if you wings are level, especially when you get high or a little far out. This is the hardest part if IMAC (keeping wings level at all times) and I think the bipe presents you with more of a challenge. Like flying a box kite. I also think snaps look funky on a bipe.

They are a pain to set up... I know a couple guys who abandoned them just because of this.
