Macchi M33 best looking airplane ever built?

Am I the only one who thinks this is one of the best looking airplanes ever built? The only model I was able to find was this one from Kyosho. Has anyone build a scratch one? do you know of any kits or plans?

Re: Macchi M33 best looking airplane ever built?

Here in italy we designed some of the most elegant airplane ever.... I like almost all of the Macchi stuff, but I do like the SIAI and Reggiane planes too.... we had some really sharp engeneers, too bad they were born in the wrong place and in thw wrong era.

PS. look at what Ing. Castoldi designed in the late 20's/early 30's. I have seen this plane in person and it's still scary aggressive!

That was one of the inspirations for Hisao Miyazaki's fictional Savoia S.21 in his anime film Porco Rosso.

You're probably not alone...

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that it's hideous...

That is a pretty design! Italian aircraft always had an interesting flair. This one is no exception.

I'm with you, Sal,

I agree the M-33 is one of the most elegant flying boats ever designed, and flying boats in general are some of the most elegant AIRCRAFT ever designed

I scratch built an electric M-33 in 2004, before the ARF came out, to participate in a Schneider Trophy float flying get together planned for each year on the Saturday evening of the Kingston Electric Fun Fly. The event never really gained momentum, partially because of poor weather for a few years, but a few of us ended up with nice Schneider seaplanes that we still enjoy flying.

My Macchi M-33 had a very slow road to success as I experimented with various motors, batteries, and take-off techniques. I would really only give it a try once or twice a year, but now, I have it worked out and it's performing very well and has become one of my favourite seaplanes. Soon, I'll be giving it a little TLC to bring it back to pristine condition.

Anyway, here's a picture taken at the Kingston fun fly in 2013...

The Outerzone has plans for the M33 at a 40"ws
The MC 72 is also there at a 60"ws.

Plans could be scaled bigger or smaller if desired.
