Scott,

You are 100% correct. The builder can decide how they want to do the build and make modifications as they see fit.

It does look great and what a nice job on the build!!

My buddy Trumpetman did something similar on his Dalton.
I only thought I would copy him. The maple is tapped for 8/32 bolts. Apparently this method is used on Cardens.
I also wanted to close up the gear area.
I weighed both the maple blocks and the aluminum L brackets with the mounting bolts, washers, and the nuts. The difference is only a few grams.
Our field isn't the smoothest, this may give it a little more strength.

The thing I'm enjoying is that on these builds you are free to make changes and put your own personal touch on things as you move along.
I must say I'm really impressed with this kit!
It is looking excellent so far!

One suggestion I will make is to glue the sockets into the fuselage before you sheet the bottom of the fuse. That way it gives you a bit more room to get to everything. On my Giles that we are building and a couple of other builds we all sheeted first and while there is still room to work I think it will just be easier in the long run to do it first.

I am not sure if you have seen Kim Quenette's build thread on Flying giants but he did some cool personalization kind of things that I think turned out great like removing some of the fuse floor areas he is not going to use.

Re: JTec 3.1m MX2 build

Why no posts. Is this plane bent like all the other Calgary builds I have seen?

I hope not because this is one great plane.

I just picked up a big AJ and may want to build this but why no posts.

Re: JTec 3.1m MX2 build

From talking to him his work has really gotten busy, it would be lucky if Scott gets it done before September .

Im thinking about building the 2.8m, but would have to modify the rudder to a hinge pin to fit into the eight foot truck box .

Re: JTec 3.1m MX2 build

There would be no problem to build a removable rudder. I'm having a lot of fun with my 2.8 m bird.
