I'll echo the simulator suggestions.

I used FMS (free) with a mock-transmitter ($30 or so on eBay) and gained a lot of experience before I ever touched the real heli.

FMS has its limits with physics versus some of the much more advanced sim packages out there, but its also a heck of a lot cheaper....

I attest the sim to helping me learn to hover so quickly, and I've gone back to the sim recently to work on side/nose in now in conjunction with the real heli.

A sim, no matter which one you get, will be money well spent.

With a set of mainblades being $15 to $20 per set for most micros, it doesn't take many avoided crashes before you recoup the cost of the sim.
