Ax10 ESC Problem/ Need Help

I have an Axial crawler, still with stock ESC. I was playing around the other day, took my 55t motor out and put a Venom Fireball 19d motor in it.(I know Venom are junk but was bored) I ran it for about 10min and then it started cogging on take off or under load like batt was dead, I changed batt and still the same. Once it gets past the first qaurter throttle or so the cogging goes away and will drive good, until i slow dwn or stop and try go again. I took the venom out, put my 27t in and same thing. Did I fry my ESC by putting Venom motor in? The ESC is good for 12t and up I think, I know it was lower then 19 so I figured it was ok. What is the difference between the "t" and the "d" on the motor turns? Thanks

Re: Ax10 ESC Problem/ Need Help

don't know what the reason they put a D on the motor for, but i'm guessing it has to do with the fact it's a double motor.

either way, it's a 19 turn motor, but with all motors, when you chane turns you HEEd to re gear the vehicle, and when you change brands (same turn rqating) you have to regear the motor. didfferent motos have different amounts of efficiency and deliver different power.

it is very possible your truck was geared wrong and you overheated your esc, permanently damaging it.

i don't use brushed motors, only brushless. so you'll have to wait for a brushed guy to take peak at the thread.

but from reading, this is my best guess at what may have happened.

cheers, eh.
phil.

Re: Ax10 ESC Problem/ Need Help

Brushed is the most popular choice for comp crawling due to superior low speed control and smoothness over currently available brushless systems.

The Axial ESC that comes installed the RTR AX-10 has a bad reputation.

The cheapest fix is to grab yourself a Castle Sidewinder and never look back.

Re: Ax10 ESC Problem/ Need Help

By your desciption of the issue you fried the speed controller. The controller that comes with the RTR ax10 is not designed for anything past a 27T, the heat generated by the 19T would have most likely fried the control board in the controller, time for an upgrade anyway. Go with a rooster system, you can't go to far wrong with that. But you can't just throw random motors at any speed contoller, the amp and watt ratings differ by company so make sure that you don't over motor your next controller.

Re: Ax10 ESC Problem/ Need Help

Hey,Thanks for the info. I was bored 1 day and wanted to fling some mud. I am sure I read on the Axial site that the ax10 esc can handle as low as a 12t or 15t,cant remember which. But I remember it being below 19t,thats the only reason I thought it would b fine.

actually,
a high quality sensored brushless system has the smoothest operation of anything at any rpm, but a brushless system wouldn't give any advantage because of the speeds involved with crawling. so there's no reason to go with the more expensive system.

but that's another thread all together.

Cheers, eh
Phil.

The other part of the equation is the disparity between holding power or drag brake on currently available brushless vs brushed systems.

State of the art in competitive crawling these days is either a Tekin FXR or Mamba Max /Max Pro or a Holmes BR-XL used in conjunction with some type of brushed motor.
