Telemetry style lipo monitor for $25! Quantum Pocket vibration voltage alarm
Just received the "Quanum Pocket Vibration Telemetry Voltage Meter With Alarm" from Hobbyking. It has a tiny transmitter that connects to the standard style balance leads on lipo batteries (up to 8S). It binds with a pager sized receiver that you can set to work between 3.7 to 3.3 volts per cell. When the selected voltage is reached, the pager begins to vibrate alerting you to the low voltage. It worked well on my RC car when testing, but HK claims it has a signal distance of 300-400m.
I have been using a lipo battery monitor hooked to the balance leads that beeps and I've found it is loud enough to accomplish the same thing for about $5. Other pilots who are harder of hearing, or have louder EDF's will probably like this new system better. Will post more once I fly it in a plane. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=40033

Re: Telemetry style lipo monitor for $25! Quantum Pocket vibration voltage alarm
Been flying the vibration voltage monitor in my new SK450 Quadcopter and it works well. The moment a cell drops below the selected voltage, I can feel the vibration alarm in the transmitter because it is clipped to the carry handle. The response is instantaneous and unmistakable. The only drawback I can see is that the unit mounted on the transmitter needs 3AAA batteries (not sure how long they last, but so far so good).

Awesome! I too have been running the regular voltage alarm type, but when 5 people are all flying with theirs also equipped with buzzers, its always: "beep Beep Beep".. ...then "is that you or is that me?" The other problem I find is while the beeper works great, all it takes is one nitro or gasser guy to totally drown out any other sound in the sky. Beeping alarms and all! This should help a lot in both of the circumstances I mention above. Will definitely order one for myself

Yeah I ordered the quantum vibration alarm too. The beeper I find I could only hear when the plane was near me.

Re: Telemetry style lipo monitor for $25! Quantum Pocket vibration voltage alarm
After further testing of the Quantum pocket vibration alarm today in my FF Hunter, I can say I'm not impressed with the range. It does work when close but even right above me in a loop, It didn't respond to a voltage drop. Perhaps it can still be used if the trigger voltage is set higher and picked up on a flyby, but I'm planning to go back to the simple Beeper monitor. It has the advantage of showing the starting voltage right when the flight starts.
Simple is better IMHO

Re: Telemetry style lipo monitor for $25! Quantum Pocket vibration voltage alarm
thanks for the feedback Eric. I will stick with my JR devices I guess. It would have been easier to move the HK unit from plane to plane but I won't risk missing a drop because of range.

Re: Telemetry style lipo monitor for $25! Quantum Pocket vibration voltage alarm
I had voltage alarm drop ( JRXG14) when I was flying in a huge thermal with e/glider . The plane was very far ( 3.5 meter w/span) I was sure my BEC was kaput , and will be almost impossible the find glider , but my helper watched the radio and the voltage from BEc 5v came back and disappear with alarm sound again, finally I decide to hurry and landed ....was only the position of the antenna in the fuse , scary ..
